Immigration Shocker: Trump Administration May Bail on DACA

Facing the threat of a lawsuit from Texas and eight other states, the Trump administration indicated Wednesday that it may decline to defend DACA in court, a move that would likely result in the end of the program that granted amnesty to illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. when they were children.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly went up to Capitol Hill on Wednesday afternoon to address members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, telling them, according to reports, that although he personally supports the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, he can’t promise that the administration will defend it if challenged.

Several members of Congress pressured Kelly in the meeting, and he responded by suggesting they work to pass a law.

Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, a Cuban-American and a Democrat, told reporters after the meeting: "It's not a pretty picture."

-- Trump sorta' ran on getting rid of it, being unconstitutional and all. --

I recall differently. He ran on securing the border, deporting criminals, and "looking for a solution" for those who were honest, hard working. I don't recall him taking a negative position vis-a-vis the "dreamers."

I hope pretending to support DACA is just political posturing. No one should support rewarding criminals. Illegals should all be deported. No exceptions. Those who speak English, have no other criminal record, did well in school, and never accepted any form of welfare should have an advantage for legal immigration, but there should be no reward for illegals.

The best thing about this is the fact that Louis Guettierez will be soiling his Undies over it for the next 3 months.

He might even have to mow his own yard.

Was always going to happen.

Some people want everything yesterday. Talk about instant gratification.

Apropos anecdote:

This weekend I took my 3 kids to the movies. It’s assigned seating, and I bought the tickets ahead of time, getting 4 together, right in the middle of the theater. Great seats.

When we entered the theater, there was a hispanic family sitting in our seats. 2 parents and 2 portly kids. There was popcorn all over the floor and on the adjacent seats.

There were 4 open seats next to them, so we brushed off the mess and sat down. I looked down the row of my kids, and saw my daughter sitting in the very last seat, against the wall. Then I looked at the hispanic family, sitting in our prime seats.

I got up, went to the dad, and told him they were in our seats. He smiled at me, pointed to the 4 seats we were using, and shrugged his shoulders. Like “what’s the difference?” His wife scowled at me.

Then I said “You’re in our seats, please move.” He looked around, sighed, said something to his family in spanish, and they all started getting up. My kids got out of their seats, the family slowly moved out of ours. Every seat was left full of spilled popcorn. My daughter had to go get napkins from the snackbar to clean up the soda left in her seat by one of the kids.

The family sat in the seats we had just vacated. I felt bad for a minute.

5 minutes later, another family came, and the dad told the hispanic family that they were in his family’s seats. The same thing happened again. The dad shrugged and pointed to empty seats a few rows closer to the screen.

This guy wasn’t having it and said “Get the f-— out of our seats or I’ll get the manager.”

The whole dreamer thing seems to parallel my movie experience. The hispanic kids were sitting in the wrong seats because their parents decided they wouldn’t follow the rules. I had to decide if my kids were gonna watch the movie from crappy seats, or if I was going to defend what I’d planned and purchased.

It may be a coincidence that this family was hispanic /mexican, but I’m not gonna PC-up my experience for fellow FReepers.

I wonder if he waffled to look good with liberals, compassionate, knowing he’d have to say no to it because of impending legal action.

Good story and good for you.
They will start deporting themselves once they understand that we’re serious about enforcing our immigration laws, just as you and the other guy made it clear to them.
I think Trump has had bigger fish to fry, but now will move on the illegal small fry. Illegal is illegal, wrong is wrong. Excepting Democrats, we’re a nation of laws.

I suspect he will allow them their grace periods, then no renewals, which was the plan all along but deportations will just start sooner, i.e, no more renewals.
GTHOOMC Mexico.

Couldn’t agree with you more.

I wonder if there is thinking among the illegals that sooner or later they will be sent back to Mexico, and that they’d be smart to get ahead of it, securing jobs and housing in Mexico before the market becomes overcrowded.

Then there’s this”

“Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.), was visibly shaken afterwards, saying, “Jeff Sessions is going to say, ‘Deport them.’ If you’re going to count on Jeff Sessions to save DACA, then DACA is ended.””

Unfortunately for us, thus far Jeff Sessions is a useless pawn who probably can’t even find the private toilet in his own office.

It’s called “softening the blow”. Trump mentioned his father taught him this, although IIRC he used another phrase.

Unfortunately for us, thus far Jeff Sessions is a useless pawn who probably can’t even find the private toilet in his own office. You're insane. Certifiably. Before the mental institutions were emptied, you would have qualified as an inmate. Unless, of course, you're a troll. I'm not interested enough to check your posting history to see which.

Watch and Learn Grasshopper.

Sessions knows how to deal with the Swamp and the Vermin that live in it.

I suspect right after exodus, E-Verify will be pushed. Hammering both the criminal Invaders and the Swamp Dwellers who bait them in with offers of steady work no questions asked.

If the Mellon growers can’t find enough labor to pick their mellons maybe next year they will plant a crop they can harvest with machinery. Not my problem. I plant and harvest my own veggies.

I hear Nevada has a shortage of Marijuana....
