"We marched for justice, we marched for the rights of the oppressed. We marched for the MPs in jail. We marched for the arrested journalists. We marched for the university academics dismissed from their jobs," said Kilicdaroglu.

"We marched because the judiciary is under a political monopoly," he added.

"We want the return of powers grabbed from the parliament," said Kilicdaroglu. "Who dares turn this country -- which is like heaven -- into a hell!" he added.

We want the return of powers grabbed from the parliament...

then harden your heart, steel your resolve, and prepare for the worst because Edrogan isn't going to yield power even if you say please.

Do you know who the Kemalists are? Kemal was the founder of the New Turkey after WWI. His followers have controlled the Turkish military since then. Erdogan is the first Islamist in power since then.

They don’t come any tougher than the Kemalists. But, they are not kind to minorities either. I’m not judging the current crop, but this is a real threat to Erdogan.

2 million.

I posted that photo and a Twitter statement about this earlier.

It had a list of 10 points they want to accomplish.

Justice March led by CHP leader @kilicdarogluk reached Istanbul with a mass demo in Maltepe

The Kemalists are not Islamists. Period.

They would return order to Turkey. But I am unsure how they would treat minorities. The past history is very bad on that.

I think the Kemalists see what Erdogan is doing to Turkey. They are powerful enough to stop this.

Consequences of not stopping it? Will be a bloody mess. May be anyway.

“The Kemalists are not Islamists.”

They are the antidote.

They are that, but I’m afraid as far as Kurds go, there is little difference.

Unless they have changed. I doubt they have.

“as far as Kurds go, there is little difference.” (between Kemalists and Erdogan’s Islamists)

Necessity makes for strange bedfellows. They need each other now.

The Kemalists have to come to terms with Kurdish demographic growth, which is widely recognized. There were probably many Kurds in that crowd, rallying for justice.

Actually he might be softening his heart towards heaven. Blind hate always blinds itself worse and worse till it bumbles into defeat.

Heaven will grant the resolve.

Watch his attitude towards Christians. That is a good gauge of where he is.

Necessity indeed.

There were no party signs. Only “Justice”.

If what you suggested can be done and Barzani in Iraq joins there is a huge opportunity. There are some possible cross border(Iraq/Turkey) elements in Turkey. The best are in jail.

I never thought I would see direct talks with SA and Israel, but they have been in contact. Trust is earned over time. This is the Middle East.

The loosers in all this? The MB Terrorists, al Qaeda, Nusra, Iran?

As far as Assad is concerned, it is up to him.

(Re aerial Istanbul photo): Wow. That’s what a million-man march really looks like. Not those over-advertised, bused in Dem mini-picnic tantrums.

“...and Barzani in Iraq joins”

Probably not a necessary element in my opinion. I think it more likely that he might stand aside neutrally, than burn his investment in Erdogan actively.

Turks, Arabs, Persians - our only friends are the mountains, as the Kurdish saying goes. They have spent a long time playing each against the others to get by, and Barzani has gained a lot of leverage over Baghdad by working Erdogan. So close now (independence referendum on 25 September), that he can taste it.

Independence is likely his first priority, followed by security, the economy and then probably larger Kurdish issues, like in Turkey. Gotta juggle it all.
