The Trump administration forged ahead with its commitment to boosting domestic fossil fuel production Thursday, directing more public lands to be opened for oil and gas extraction a move that could bring new drill rigs to California.
The state hasnt seen new onshore oil and gas leases offered up on federal land in four years because of environmental fights. The order signed by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke on Thursday has some environmentalists fearing that de facto moratorium will soon end.
At minimum, the administrations action will intensify the push by energy companies to broaden drilling across Californias prime oil country, in the interior Central Coast region and the southern San Joaquin Valley, and promises a new round of drawn-out conservation battles.
Zinkes order calls for federal oil and gas leases to be auctioned off at least four times a year in every state where reserves are available. That charge does away with what the oil industry says are sometimes concerted efforts to delay or thwart lease sales and hamper energy exploration.

Drill, baby, drill! And reduce ocean-side property values, too!
Drill baby drill. More winning, yay!
Frackers! To your pick-ups!
You know CA can fund that bullet train to nowhere simply by allowing drilling. CA has rich natural gas and offshore oil deposits. Just amazing why anyone would advocate this ridiculous “Keep in the ground” movement. In the immortal words of Smokey from the movie Friday - “Man, God put this here on Earth for us man!” (Well, he was talking about weed, but it’s the same.)
We need the oil to stay in the ground and lubricate it’s axis.
Ha haaaaa! Watch how fast California discovers “States’ rights”.
Other than that which makes up Washington, D.C. and military installations.
States rights? According to Moonbeam, California is not a state any more its a soveriegn nation....
That’s the beauty of being a California Libtard. You can change your self-identification from day to day.
Or increase it, depending on who’s got oil.
Trump seems likely to demand more care in drilling, however, than in the unfortunate Gulf incident under Barack Obama. Better morale helps here. When people who are drilling don’t think they are under the gun of a fickle administration that might love them today and hate them tomorrow, and therefore have to hurry and cut corners rather than doing it right.
Yeeeeeeee hawwwwwwwww
Today, if DEMs God Tom Steyer’s announce that drill everywhere, there will be stampede here in California for drilling.
In a way, that acutally bolsters my point. The whole concept of States, as envisioned by our Founding Fathers, was that they would operate almost as little countries. The States created the Federal govdernment, not the other way around. They are supposed to guard against Federal usurpation jealously.
As a Californian, I hope Moonbeam and his Commie Pinko Snowflakes make the States' Rights argument.
And then, I hope my fellow FReepers are smart enough to jump up and shout, "Damn straight!", and then make the argument I just made.
>As a Californian, I hope Moonbeam and his Commie Pinko Snowflakes make the States’ Rights argument.
Don’t be fooled, they’ll forget about the idea 5 minutes after they have the white house. The only that matters today is power. The left has no principles and rules of fair play and they want to destroy us.
Moonbeam, take that and shove the CO2 up your butt until it explodes. You are a fool beyond belief. Do you piss backwards?
Agreed. That's why I implore my fellow FReepers to swallow their pride and embrace the Founding Father's view of the relationship between the States and the Federal government.
First and foremost, the Fedeal government was prohibited from owning any land other than that which makes up Washington, D.C., Territories such as Puerto Rico, The U.S. Virgin Islands, and military installations.
LOL. Lest Guam tip over because of it.
Set up derricks in Moonbeam’s backyard !
The rigs will be out of sight from land.
