I think the biggest similarity is that today’s elite leftists and the French aristocrats both lived in isolation from the majority of the people in flyover/carriage-over country, and that both elites were leaches on the productive work of the majority, whom they held in contempt, yet felt entitled to.

One big difference is that the millions of people on welfare are now on the side of the leftist elite which has bought them off, while in the French revolution the rabble made common cause with the middle class.

How it shakes out, I don’t know.
