Survey says...

“From the interview: “Her death, after several years of ill-health, left Gorbachev bereft. He lives in Moscow, has not remarried and finds solace with his daughter and grand-daughters. He would not be coaxed to talk about Raisa, except fleetingly in the context of the charity.”[56]”

I gotta' admit; I was wrong about Gorby. He really was a good guy. We got real lucky back in the '80s. And we squandered all the great work that happened.

Things don't look too good right now with Syria and North Korea. I wish we would leave Syria to the Russians. We have no strategic interest there. North Korea is a threat to national security.

Gorbachev wanted to preserve the USSR as a federal and democratic state. Communist hardliners and ethnic separatists had other ideas.

He helped to end the Cold War. Russians see him however as the man who destroyed the big country in part through his bungling and left them to face severe hardship when most of the country’s wealth was looted by oligarchs in the face of a sudden transition to a market economy.

I doubt he’ll get the same regard when he is gone Yeltsin got a decade ago.

I heard Cokie Roberts give out her views on Trump meeting Putin and she sounded ominous. The liberals are in as tizzy playing the expectation game.

How long will they talk, forty minutes, an hour? Evidently, according to the liberals, if Putin does not break down in tears and apologize for”making Trump president” then it will mean that Trump has utterly failed and should fly back to Florida and remain on his golf course.

Or maybe nothing less than a thermonuclear exchanbge between the two powers will assuage their appetite for meaningful results.

I think Putin and Co have acted with considerable restraint in response to the Nazi bait installed in Ukraine by Comrade Chairman Obama and Co.

YMMV.

>>I wish we would leave Syria to the Russians

And let the petrodollar be replaced with a petroruble?

Maybe a better strategy would be to work with Russia,China, and others in securing the stability of the currency of global trade... instead of manufacturing crISIS for the convenience and profitability of the Military Industrial L.I.F.E.R. termites embedded in the deep state woodwork.
