French president Emmanuel Macron told a gathering of lawmakers on Monday that France was ready for a radically new path which would include profound changes including slashing the number of MPs and Senators by a third and ending the state of emergency. [ ]
The Senate has 348 members, while the lower house National Assembly has 577 and Macron warned them he would call a referendum if they do not agree.
Macron also said he planned to introduce a dose of proportional representation for the next parliamentary elections, so that all tendencies are fairly represented (in parliament).
That reform could enable smaller parties like the far-right National Front to gain more MPs to reflect the number of votes they are given nationwide.
He also expressed his desire to boost citizens participation in democracy by revising at the right to petition so that the publics views are better taken into account.

Look for 666 around this guy.
Regardless of the political motivations, 900+ representatives for a nation the size of France is a lot.
Why slash all those lawmakers himself? A large number of recent comers to the French nation would no doubt do it for free—and with greater finality.
He is the Vichy regime’s leader.
The solution to the unelected multinational corporations and the unelected multinational government bureaucracy of the EU is to reduce the number of government officials elected by the people.
NOT.
This is pure show and distraction and a move in the wrong direction.
They had a Revolution and Beheaded people like him
Lemme guess. One third are conservative.

Interesting. Thanks for posting.
I recently found out New Hampshire has 400 representatives. For a state that's a fraction of the size of my borough (similar to a county, for you yanks). By comparison, Alaska has 40 representatives.
“is a lot.”
Compared to us yes, but I think more would actually be better here.
If you think that congress is out of touch, that might be because each congressman is “representing” over 700k people. Based on the lower house of France and their population, it’s about 114k. I think the Constitution originally put it at 40k.
That’d be a hell of a lot of congressmen but as long as they reduced the size of the budget of their office proportionally, I don’t think it’d be too expensive.
Also, you might think, how would so many agree and get anything done?
Well, I think that’d be a pleasant side effect. In case you haven’t noticed, the more congress accomplishes, the more we are screwed are are in fact better off the less they do.
From the way the heading was written. It sounds like Macron is sending legislators to the guillotine. LOL
But but but surrendering to invaders is hardly new for france!
Well. Honestly, can anyone say getting rid of politicians is a bad thing?
Sound like Macron is draining le Marais. Elegantly, of course,
Have they got Crocs in le Marais?
