Fundamentally social security is a Ponzi scheme.
Todays workers’ payments fund todays retirees, tomorrows workers will fund the retirement of todays workers.
Like a Ponzi scheme if the numbers of those paying in (workers) is significantly higher then those receiving payments (retirees) the system functions. However labor & retirement demographics aren’t constant!(Why would anyone rational think they would be?) Plus Congress (Rats & cowardly ‘me too’ GOP’ers) added recipients to it that never paid a dime in. People take way more out then they pay in. Google “Ida Mae Fuller” (1st SS recipient - she was in all the newsreels!), look at what she paid in versus what she took out. There have been tens of thousands of Ida Mae Fullers! I saw this figure in 1980 (Therefore I am sure now its worse!), if you live more then seven years past retirement. You are now taking out more then you put in. (These numbers are based on the “average person” who or whatever that is!) Also like all Ponzi schemes the first ones in come out with roses, the later & last ones in get it in the shorts!
Also you have no property rights in the money you put in. Past USSC decisions explicitly state that. So the notion “the money” you put in is “there and yours” is completely laughable! It was there and out the door to the crop of retirees that existed while you were working.
It has always been that way, it was deliberately set up that way by FDR’s buds in spite of warnings by the financial industry that it would eventually fail. It was set up to make generations dependent on future Rat politicians. I guess given how many people believe it “works” and the numbers dependent on it. I guess they succeeded in some sense.
The same thing that happened BEFORE Obamacare was passed: The best health care system in the world.
That would be a really tough case at this point. The body would have to be dug up and lots of things would have to happen, really tough to do.Is it doable I don’t know.
Good you listen to him then,I don’t need it.
Yes I think so as well. Leave what should be private business to private businesses and those who want to buy will, those who don’t won’t.Free to Choose.
Of all the g'ment institution, the military is by far the best. Aside from the (30% - this no. may be higher) of political animals vs. the Pattons, Shermans, in the upper ranks. Yes I realize that you do need some Political Skills at the upper levels. Women in the upper ranks - NEVER. We are not Israel and we are not a monolithic country.
Wars the U.S fights should be fast, extremely deadly to the enemy. Once the fighting is done, we leave a token politician behind. If needed we come back and do it again, Fast with EXTREME prejudice. The Tanks march in Desert Storm - Three days and we are done. Bush let Sadan get away with a great deal of the military still living. Their Women should weep, wail and moan so ours do not have to.
Modernized military is a requirement. Old generals and Political Generals always fight the last war. To win you always need to be stronger, faster and smarter than your opponent. Ruthlessness helps. Islam is not a religion - What it is the the Equivalent of the(https://www.britannica.com/topic/papacy) medievel papacy up to and including the Borgia popes. The Church ran everything and there were constant fights over local jurisdiction. This is Islam, the local Mufti or the local Imam fight each other as well as out of town Muftis, Imams. As you say, for these people the last 2000 + years have not changed, other than some modern conveniences and better firepower
Prevaling wages are not the same as median wages
You’re commenting on what it has become. What corrupt politicians have made it and turned it into.
When and if you respond please state your net worth, age and what “personal responsibility” is lacking for somebody like me who’s payed in for 40 years, saved enough to just live off when I retired while raising two children as a single parent father and managed to get them both through high school, kept them fed and medically fit.
Social Security is easily fixed if they had a mind to. Stop awarding it to people who haven’t paid in and stop pretending to be investing it when the government commingled those funds with it’s own and then spends it.
Back to your simpleton platitudes.
Yes.
Prevailing wages are what is used to pay construction workers, per the table provided, for working on public buildings in Delaware.
Almost $50 an hour for a painter.
What’s wrong with that?
Sunday Political Talk Shows
FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; Marc Short, White House director of legislative affairs.
Rand Paul gibbers about how he wants his way but he’s all noble about it, don’t crown him king until Obamacare is repealed.

Oddly there was a nice round table discussion of historical books in honor of July 4th. A fascinating look into Nixon stands out.

What is Kasich’s claim to fame? Is there anyway at all to make him go away?

Wow, Senator Ben Sasse is quite the speaker and political pundit, no? He declared himself “agnostic” to repeal and replace, he wrote a book, he’s often mistaken for a congressional page. I’m delighted with this guy and shall keep close eye upon.

My personal net worth is my business and none of yours. I do not mean to be rude.
Everyone's personal situation is different. We have a stable two parent family with three kids, a say at home mom.
Social security will not be fixed, that unfortunately is the way it is.
Personal Responsibility - Spend less that you earn. Yes it can be hard, it was for me when I was young. It will be again when SS fails me in the future.
Wining and moaning gets you nowhere. Voting in the primaries to replace your local RINO is not a Simpleton's platitude
These quotes may go back as far as Marcus Tullius Cicero
Nothng is wrong with that wage but if they are quoting union scale then the numbers include benefits such as retirement contributions by the company on behalf of the employee.
By law, SS can only pay out benefits that equal revenue. Once the SSTF is exhausted, SSA will only be able to pay out about 80% of the benefits. SS can’t go bankrupt as long as the revenue keeps coming in.
Okay, let us clarify......
....this quote came from a Delaware Republican email. It is what the state of Delaware is charged for the services as delineated.
So I want the library painted, the contractor has 5 painters on the job spending 20 hours painting. Delaware has to pay the “prevailing wage” rate per the listing. Which would be $almost fifty bucks an hour.
This prevailing wage is achieved by I don’t know what method....negotiating I suspect. It’s not the union wage, it’s certainly not a minimum wage.
It’s a wage that Delaware politicos put into law mind you, that they would pay for those services on all public buildings. They all got into a smoke filled room, agreed on amounts of future political contributions....yada, yada.
How much the painter gets paid might not be that high but this is what Delaware pays to have public libraries painted by some mystical agreement of the gods.
It’s corrupt and probably illegal on some level but they do it and get away with it.
Delaware is a predominantly Democratic state with Wilmington now being called “Murder City”.
Now the Democrats want to eliminate interest and property tax deductions for people like me because they consider the middle class the rich people.
Ok, I thought the State like many lib States are required by law to hire only union and I naturally assumed they would be paid prevailing union wages.
I do believe some States require ALL workers on government jobs be paid prevailing union wages even if they are not themselves union. This is an attempt to protect the unions.
My expectation is that we will have some type of Means testing revisited for SS within the next Ten years
