Hello, I can understand your point.

But mine is less about the child and more about liberty. In my opinion if the parents have the resources and the desire to take it all the way to the end then they should be allowed to; as you already pointed out it, probably the child is not even aware, and probably has nothing to lose.

Why should the courts have this decision? The fact that it got into the courts is disturbing enough, someone somewhere did something.

And then, where does it stop, what are the boundaries?

I have studied history, economics and psychology for over 45 years. I would rather have anarchy (preferably Kantian) over tyranny (any form of central control).

And of course the primary assumption here is the parents are good people and no just law have been broken.

It was never a matter of funding.....the hospital they are at ‘were’ well prepared to begin this other treatment but the team and another team outside the hospital concluded it would be futile to try that treatment. .....given his condition and the active epilepsey seizures he was having...not to mention the loss of brain tissue.....which is the natural progression of this disease as an infant...

The court’s only have to decide when the Medical team and the parents have a conflict over treatment. The court is positioned ‘to represent the child’ and what is in HIS best interests to proceed with a very questionable and untested treatment.

Plus you cannot overlook the mothers frantic pursuit to try to find a physician who would do what the others had determined would not be helpful. And even the US Doctor said he didn’t realize how severe the child was when he said he would treat him. So in the end they were all on the same page.....including the parents who said they did not want to continue with their son as he is.

Much of what we have heard is really old news....but so sad that the parents had so much press that it’s hard to walk away from that even. I just hope no Attorney comes in now to stretch this out even further in law suites etc.
