You can only claim actual damages in cases of defamation. No costs or fees or punitive damages. The best reason for suing a newspaper is to damage their reputation as a reliable and truthful news source.

Of course, as South Park pointed out, she could sue them in England. LOL.

I don't know how she could claim jurisdiction, but I like the idea. The company I work for did major business in Brazil, and what a pain in the ass that is. Everyone is venal. One of our local representatives was recorded on the phone as saying of a legislator, "This guy just wants a suitcase full of money." It created a major scandal in Brazil (spare me the sanctimony) and the legislator sued in England. Needless to say, we dropped the local rep like a hot potato, because the suit might well have been successful.

Brazil will remain poor as long as they have to pay a corruption tax on everything.
