I once heard an excellent sermon where the pastor used the proverbial 'pigs on the way to the slaughterhouse' reference.
The pastor related the story of how he was working one summer where they were hauling some pigs in their truck to the slaughterhouse. The pigs could sense something was wrong and they were squealing and fighting them so much that it was a great struggle to unload the pigs. Then he looked up and saw a farmer leading a whole line of orderly pigs right into the slaughterhouse. Puzzled, the young man (who would later become a pastor) looked to see how the farmer was able to deliver the pigs so easily. He saw that the farmer was just dropping seeds along the way. Heads down, the pigs merrily munched up the seeds and marched right into the slaughterhouse.
The obvious message is that Satan does the same to us. He keeps us distracted from what is important (eternal life) and people march along the broad way to destruction. Our leaders try to keep us distracted, and obviously Western Europe is very distracted.
Great Metaphor! May have to use it!
