Trained legal minds would surely have an answer to this question. Doesn’t a law have to apply across the board to all citizens and not to an individual or a group?

It seems odd that individual citizens can get nailed for taking a stand while whole population groups who do the same are free to continue without a comment.
The individuals being singled out here are ones in business. Muslims would also be effected.
This nonsense has been foisted on us by public accomodation laws which strip rights from anyone in business. IMHO, this is patently unconstitutional if applied to the self employed.

Muslims get away with all kinds of discrimination in this country, and even in the leftist bastion of Canada. The left won’t mess with people who will physically fight back. Hypocritical bullies.

Excellent point. If we lose this case, we should set up a muslim bakery the same way these people were set up, and watch what happens.
Liberals have been fighting conservatives in a culture war for a century. They see Muslims as poor, backward oppressed people, hence their reflexive and excessive sympathy for them. They also use Muslims as allies in the culture war, since a Muslim joining atheists for saying “take down those Christian symbols” can’t be called an attack by atheists when a Muslim deist is involved.
The horrible irony is that liberals think they can convert Muslims to liberal secularism, when Muslims have far more history and a much stronger, reinforcing memeplex. So very few Muslims convert to liberal secularism, for fear of their very lives. But liberals keep “accommodating” Muslims while importing them, naively or deliberately ignoring the fact they aren’t assimilating to either traditional Judeo-Christian culture or liberal secular ones. Or they think that Muslims citing multiculturalism to exploit our weakness and weaponized empathy are assimilating, instead of using our social system against us.
Liberals end up bringing in people far more antithetical to liberal secular values than Judeo-Christian Westerners or even Asians and Christian Africans, while at the same time giving them prayer space in public facilities and segregating by gender, excusing Muslim abuse of women and hiding reports of Muslim rape gangs.
Their excess of empathy and misplaced compassion leads to direct undermining of liberal secular society, whether Western women are afraid to go out at night for fear of gang rape or walk uncovered for fear of acid attacks. Attacks on Jews and homosexuals are skyrocking in the EU. And liberal secularists double down on the appeasement - if we just arrest those criticizing Islam, they’ll stop making demands and stop hurting people!
Liberals are replicating the martyr syndrome of the battered wife, defending her husband’s reputation in the hope of redeeming him or preventing a beating and refusing to act because action would be as immoral as his beating her. But it is on a civilization scale. It is also enabled by liberals reflexively using the increased police state not to monitor mosques and end Islamic oppression in the West but arresting their long time rivals conservatives instead.
You see the same thing in the revived “Handmaids’ Tale” with liberals seriously believing that Christians are just waiting to set up an oppressive theocracy, a Christian boogeyman, while ignoring Shariah law doing all that’s in that book and more (killing homosexuals, state sanctioned rape) in Iran, Saudi Arabia, ISIS territories.
Their irrational hatred of traditional Western society blinds them to the evils Islam is committing today, and multiculturalism as an empty faith causes them to defend Islam, such as “but the Crusades” or “that one Christian terrorist last year”.
False immoral equivalence, but they don’t want to admit the horrors they are enabling. That would require admitting their desire to do good is enabling evil and they overwhelmingly derive both their identities and morality from liberalism. No, better to engage in a savior complex to save the Muslims and try to radiate even more love in the desperate hope it reforms Islam because it costs too much emotionally to admit you imported and then enabled the Islamic terrorists.
