Think of this. Instead of you holding the weight, the weight is placed on a table.

Ok put the weight on a balloon with a small hole in it that I can over come buy blowing air into it keeping it afloat. In any of those cases work is keeping the weight afloat such that if the force that was holding it up was removed it would fall.

The table in your example is just an extension of the earth doing nothing even closely resembling work. The point I was trying to make is Physicist denie any work is taking place when two magnets oppose each other, I think there is and no I can't prove it, but Galileo couldn’t prove his theory either until the telescope was invented.

We are just waiting for another tool that I likely will never see but the new super magnets make trying to find that tool an interesting quest.

Your mind is ripe for being taken by perpetual motion scams.

No work is done on the balcony. Work is done moving the air.

Remove the table and the rocker will fall.
