BEIJING (Reuters) - China and the United States agreed that efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula should be "complete, verifiable and irreversible", Chinese state media said on Saturday, reporting the results of high level talks in Washington this week.
"Both sides reaffirm that they will strive for the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," a consensus document released by the official Xinhua news agency said.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had said on Thursday that the United States pressed China to ramp up economic and political pressure on North Korea, during his meeting with top Chinese diplomats and defense chiefs.
China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi and General Fang Fenghui met Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis during the talks. Yang later met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House, where they also discussed North Korea, Xinhua reported.
The consensus document also highlighted the need to fully and strictly hold to U.N. Security Council resolutions and push for dialogue and negotiation, which has long been China's position on the issue.

But so far, China has shown they are not ready to bring the hammer down.
At some point we may have to apply military pressure on China to encourage them to leash that mad dog.
Was reading about the First Sino-Japanese war on Wikipedia. Hadn’t heard of this before: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_Intervention
Was pondering how very different history in the part of the wolrd would have been were Russia France and Germany unable to agree on this course of action.
Lying a$$holes.
Only problem is that China is a brutal communist military dictatorship that can’t be trusted as far as you can throw Michael Moore, but it’s progress I suppose.
‘complete, irreversible’ Korean denuclearization
Rots of ruck
That should have been done a long time ago. Too much talk and zero action.
Ithn’t thith inflammatory?
Has the ring of Kissinger to me. I hope that this works out to be a base to work off of in the region.
Sixty years too late, and a yuan short.
Lol.
China enabled Pakistan, N Korea and now Iran in developing nukes as part of their asymmetric strategy.
“Both sides reaffirm that they will strive for the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” a consensus document released by the official Xinhua news agency said. Dog Eating FatBoy will probably have to assume room temperature for this to actually be achieved; but that’s HIS choice.
Forget denuclearization. We have passed that point and need regime change. If we put the onus on China for it we have an objective metric as to whether China was successful - fat little Kim Jung Un’s cold dead body.
Paradoxically, eliminating the North Korean nuclear weapons program may well require nuking the living s*** out of them.
De-nuke. Makes me think of the old TV show Fantasy Island. I can picture little “Tattoo” running up to Kim Jong-un:
“Boss, De Nuke, De Nuke. It’s here.” BOOM.
Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis are having their collective chains yanked ...
Honestly disarming north Korea is not worth failing to slap tariffs on China.
We can deal with a nuclear North Korea, we can’t survive China taking our entire industrial base, and becoming the worlds most powerful military machine.
A machine we can’t hope to contain due to their numerical and industrial superiority. A machine run by power hungry communist bent upon taking control of vast areas of the world.
Push comes to shove South Korea alone can take out north Korea. But the the whole free world would be hard pressed to seriously take down a fully industrialized China without nuclear war and China. Even now they are taking huge and vital sections of the world’s oceans for themselves.
Like this is gonna end well.
5 minutes of nuclearization followed by thousands of years of denuclearization. I like it.
China is in a difficult position unless they can get control of the N. Korean military. Should a war start it would be inundated with 100,000s of thousands or even millions of N. Korean.
They have to pull something out of Sun Tzu.
The American economy is based upon creativity - creating new products and services. China may be chaining itself to a declining portion of the economy. Once a product becomes a matter of repetition, it will be produced elsewhere for less. And there is no monopoly on technology. That can be spread easily.
American products have very little (and growing littler) raw labor in them and cannot be replicated in most other countries. Some products cannot justify the American labor within them and be sold for a profit.
It is in education that the Chinese are most dangerous not the military. Our schools have collapsed into a few real studies surrounded by a bunch of radical nihilism nonsense.
Chinese students are studying math, science and engineering with a vengeance while ours are studying Womyn/Black/Anti-White Studies.
