Messhall paperwork really sucks if the cash collection sheet gets lost (did not happen to me).
What I remember about the mess sergeant at MACE was he really cared about troops getting the best possible chow. If people missed breakfast for duty reason, he set out a midmorning meal with signs; one said “Try Our Shabazz Steak & Take”.
There was a cartoon in our ops shack of a pilot saying “yes sir, I’ll take flares” while he is thinking “c***sucker!”

Yeah, young guys ask me today when I was in I say ‘Four Wars Back’. Puzzles them for a second as they do the math or I say ‘Half-a Century Ago’ and that really gets them going.
