On the other hand, a Handel win is not anywhere near the victory/mandate/endorsement the Trump team will claim it to be. This is a Republican district. The only reason it was close: A lot of Republicans voted for a Democrat. So, the GOP victory on the merits is pretty limited. Spending enough money to scald a wet mule (to borrow a phrase from Haley Barbour) to hold on to a district that Tom Price (Trumps HHS secretary) and Newt Gingrich held is not a sign of Republican health.

And will continue to get more blue. I left that district in 2009 for a better school district. Getting to be one of those private school only kind of districts for people with money. Some of the public schools are only 10% white in much of the southern portion of the district.
hehehe
CUCK
I live on the edge of it. My son just graduated from Henderson middle school and is going to the very local Catholic school for HS. My daughter just got into the magnet program - if not she would have gone to private school for MS. Henderson is ... not ideal
Dont forget Ben Shapiro. The whole K street “conservative” group is now whining about the inmates running the asylum. they simply want control.
Please no!
Especially when they have spent the last 8 years worshiping their Obama messiah and now have lost middle America. 30% of the Democrats in the house are from CA or NY. The plan was to have their Obama who everyone loved all over the world, take matters into his own hands and shove through EO's, regulations, change immigration laws, the Dem party sat by, thinking their Potus could do it all then they would be the winners, don't need congress. So they did not develop any up and coming congress or senate candidates, they have nobody, who will they run for POTUS?
They are so sheltered and close minded, it is frightening how off the mark they are. Never once have I heard one Dem, say, maybe American does not like our policies?
Hey Jonah, covfeve! ...
The district is drifting toward the Dems as a result of expansion of the urban footprint. The numbers look to me like a 51.5/48.5 split at this point; in the future it will become a tossup district unless the lines are changed.
Both candidates were relatively poor choices. Ossoff for obvious reasons; Handle a little less obvious because the R's here tend more conservative than the split implies and she is probably more liberal and less pro Trump than the district.
Fact that she beats the split is in fact a real indictment of the Dems strategically--this was a winnable race for the D's which they muffed because they still don't understand where the electorate is going.
On the other hand it is not as much cause for celebration as a win by a more pro Trump conservative would have been. Handel is not likely to be knocked out in a primary in 2018 either unless she proves to be an obvious inconsistency with where the district wants to go.
Somebody up thread has pointed out that the rats best chance to gain seats is not by challenging incumbents, but rather winning open seats. To date, they have failed miserably at that, which bodes well for 2018.
IIRC demtards spent $40 million and repubs 4.5 million.
NR, stick to what you know and stay out of GA poltics which you are totally clueless about.
The showing last night shows a lot of voters who did not vote for Trump in Nov 16 are warming to him. This election was marketed at a “Referendum on Trump” and your team LOST, badly.
But step up, take a bow. You never trumpers almost won the election for Hillary. This district had about 25,000 fewer votes for Trump then voted for GOP Senator Johnny Issacson. So you Never Trumpers did have a significant impact in depression Trumps turnout in GOP strongholds.
And don’t think your rabid poltical idiocy is ever going to be forgiven or forgotten NR.
Actually that paragraph is completely wrong. It wasn’t even close. It was a pretty standard GA special election result.
And it wasn’t even close despite Democrats dumping $35 millions into the race.
NR needs to stick to DC politics and stay out of analysis of GA politics since they demonstrated here they have NO CLUE what they are talking about here
And he lost to the first woman Representative elected from Georgia!
Cynthia McKinney, D-Nutcase, was the first woman elected to Congress from Georgia.
This seat is up for election in 2018.
That is where the real rubber meets the road.
they wont have long to wait for a rerun.
Yes, knowing the truth, you can.
The “narrative” is that this is such a strong republican district. The truth is that they have been trying to water down republican strength through redistricting since Newt’s days. The truth is the candidate herself is more of an open borders RINO than many would like to see.
So, was Trump repudiated or were the NeverTrump-loving RINOs?
That’s what I meant — thanks for the correction. :^)
Several points.
One it wasn’t close. Close is 1-2% 3% is a win 4% is a solid win.
two
Two. Once again the MSM and the Talking Heads had Ossoff already marked in the winners column! Because of Trump. So if Ossoff lost, how is that not a good thing for Trump?
Three. Once again big money and solid backing from the MSM media (think Hillary Clinton) lost an election.
Four. Still unable to accept or understand a loss the Progs and the MSM are offering up anything and everything as reason for the loss including the weather!
If I were President Trump I would be in a very good mood today!
The democrat ran as a anti-waste, "conservative" candidate "who will fight Washington" for MONTHS - NEVER mentioning the word "democrat" in ANY advertisement on the conservative talk shows and local TV media outlets!
On democrat (black and jazz and rap stations) he ran as a liberal democrat, KNOWING that the white conservative voters would never see both ads at the same audience.
It WAS a "Vote Trump" election the last 10 days, when voters saw what the national press was doing.
