A Reality Check about What Handel’s Win Means [NeverTrump]
National Review (Corner) ^ | 6/21/17 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 06/21/2017 5:21:23 AM PDT by madprof98

On the other hand, a Handel win is not anywhere near the victory/mandate/endorsement the Trump team will claim it to be. This is a Republican district. The only reason it was close: A lot of Republicans voted for a Democrat. So, the GOP victory on the merits is pretty limited. Spending enough money to scald a wet mule (to borrow a phrase from Haley Barbour) to hold on to a district that Tom Price (Trump’s HHS secretary) and Newt Gingrich held is not a sign of Republican health.

Goldberg is sour and ugly. He is one of the more despicable sore-loser never-TRUMPers. ICK!

The social pressure on them to ‘keep the faith’ must be WAY beyond their tolerance.

What wimps! He*&-I have family members no longer welcome at my home, because of their gratuitous hate speech about the last election. Next to Jonah and the rest, I must be a regular tower of human fortitude and dedication!!

These guys are just riding the fence so they can grandstand their a*&es off, if the Liberals succeed in fabricating something plausible against the President.

I’m okay with calling that a moral victory for Ossoff, as the media certainly will.

.....and the Atlanta Falcons had a moral victory in the last Super Bowl.

One of the consequences of the GA election may be the early retirement of Pelosi. The Democrats aren’t dumb and they may very well realize that with her as the face of their party in the House she becomes a huge liability. I look for a retirement announcement before the end of the year and new younger face to emerge as Minority Leader.

Jonah Goldberg never veers far off from his Trump-hate. It consistently disorders his mind.

From what I can gather, the district has been tampered with in its geography.

Sure you can. That district is becoming more and more Democrat as time goes on, due to the influx of blue state refugees voting their same error and also many many middle east refugees resettled that district for many years now.

Did you hear the excitement of the Karen Handel supporters when she thanked President Donald Trump? And their shouting Trump, Trump, Trump? It was clear, Donald Trump really helped Karen Handel win.

“This is a Republican district. The only reason it was close: A lot of Republicans voted for a Democrat.”

Sigh... I understand the upper-crust establishment snobs like Romney, McCain, Crystal, and George Will caught TDS, but claiming it’s a Republican district that votes Dem just really seems screwed up.

No, Jonah. The only reason it was close: 11 Republicans ran in the special election, splitting the vote into tiny pieces. This election should NEVER have gotten to a runoff.

Spending a ton of money to try to buy an election instead of come up with a reason to vote for you is the death knell of the Democratic Party.

Jonah should go back to playing with his collectors item RINO action figure set. I betcha the John Kasich and Jeb Bush figures are his favs.

It’s really amusing to see Jonah Goldberg taken seriously as this cerebral academic.

let me tell you he was handed his career on a silver platter by his mother and when he first started out appearing on radio he used the word “like” 5 times more often than a mid 1980s Valley girl.

I thought he was joking when I first heard him on the radio, maybe 5 LIKEs every sentence.

the idea of taking him seriously is ridiculous.

It’s amazing to me that Dinesh D’Souza is his friend.

You can’t disagree with that paragraph.

Sure you can; because it is misleading and fails MISERABLY because it is only HALF the truth!

"Spending enough money to scald a wet mule (to borrow a phrase from Haley Barbour) to hold on to a district that Tom Price (Trump’s HHS secretary) and Newt Gingrich held is not a sign of Republican health."

If what the Republicans spent is enough to scald a wet mule (at $4mil), then what the Democrat spent is enough to melt the polar caps (at $23mil)! And, the Democrats did just as they usually do in that district - LOSE!

What Jonah did was obfuscate the MAJOR details of what the Democrats spent...because the Republicans wouldn't have needed to spend enough to scald a mule, if the Democrats were not trying to melt the polar caps!

The hell I can't. The demonRATS out spent the pubbies by $10 MILLION when an average house race is won/lost with less than 2 million being spent.

The mere fact that Karen Handel {a less than dynamic candidate} won, is in it self, a small miracle.

You are a caver...SAD.

GOP Inc and professional “conservatives” have been reliably wrong for years now. It doesn’t stop them from continuing to peddle their nonsense.

Just enjoy the win. Don’t read too much or too little into it.

When I saw the headline, I thought “must be Jonah Goldberg.”
