In this case, it’s not just “the public’s curiosity”. If the administration is contemplating an action in response to his death, Trump needs to confirm what they’re dealing with so he’s not going in blindly. Proportionality is important when world events are involved.
I understand that the basic issue is that the kid was apprehended there for a ridiculous reason, the punishment didn’t fit the crime, the dictator is a monster, Otto is gone, etc. There was some talk that perhaps he hanged himself and lost brain function as a result. If true, he could’ve chosen to live and now would be home with the family thanks to the efforts of Trump and Tillerson.
It’s important for the administration to know as much as possible about what they’re dealing with.
