Duh! The light finally flickers on and stays on.
I don’t know if Otto’s family encouraged him to go or not.
It would not surprise me. My sympathies for their loss. Nothing hurts like losing a close family member.

If he had been my kid I’d have locked him in the basement before letting him go.

He had planned to study abroad in his third year of college in China and heard about Chinese travel companies offering trips to North Korea. His parents were OK with it.

“Otto’s a young, thrill-seeking, great kid who was going to be in that part of the world for a college experience,” Fred Warmbier explained.

I haven’t really commented on this ‘case’ but I find it hard to find ‘sympathy’ for the kid.
I thought I heard his father say he was adventurous and was trying to get educated prior entering college.

Uh, if he wanted world travel etc he could have enlisted.

I was lucky enough to find myself in Tijuana Mexico, Pearl Harbor TH & Yokosuka Japan prior my 17th bd and the thought NEVER crossed my mind to vandalize something, or ‘steal’ something just because it was there.

I actually feel the same for this kid as I did for the one that got his 15 minutes by getting caned in Singapore.

Yes, a foolish way to end ones life and a harsh lesson to learn BUT one must act accordingly.

While on the ‘soapbox’, I have been hearing about the BRAVE, HEROIC Alexandria Cops the past few days because they ran towards the gunfire not hid.

Yes, heroic to a point but isn’t that why we hire them as police? To go above and beyond what the normal citizen is willing to do?

Personally, I still go towards the action, not away from it so I find it hard to really get on board the ‘hero’ train.....and still cringe when seeing pics of some of the ‘mass shootings’ where all the cops were hunkered down OUTSIDE the building...

Right, Wrong or Indifferent, back in ‘my day’, someone would have rushed into the building, not sit outside awaiting orders...ESPECIALLY when one could hear the kids screaming and shots being fired....

PROGRESS, DISCIPLINE.....??

More than a close relative. A child.
