Record temperatures. Roads cracking and buckling. Planes that can't take off. Power knocked out. Wildfires raging. These are just some of the trying conditions currently roiling America's West Coast, which is in the midst of a record-breaking heatwave.
Nervous about how these disruptions will negatively impact the economy and even cost human life? You should be. And there's more to come.
Changing weather patterns are the new normal, thanks to decades of trashing the environment and a refusal from many in the party currently controlling Washington, the Republicans -- and their corporate patrons -- to even acknowledge climate change as a reality, let alone do anything about it.
Entire nations may soon be under water. Mega-cities that are home to hundreds of millions are set to drown, leaving huge numbers of people stranded, constraining already-limited resources, fueling violence and competition over those resources, and creating a whole new category of need: climate refugees.
A delayed flight out of Phoenix will soon be the least of our worries.
If you're stranded in Phoenix right now, or worried about an elderly acquaintance in California, or are without power in the Bay Area, or nervous about a wildfire taking your home, you can thank the long list of politicians who do the bidding of polluting corporations instead of their constituents and protect profit over the environment.
You can thank the President who tore up the Paris climate agreement. And you can show your displeasure by refusing to support candidates who don't take climate change seriously, and don't do whatever they can to keep the world inhabitable.
Anything less is global suicide.

Been pretty rainy and mild here, so far.
The Southwest is always broiling in summer.
WOW!
They’re more powerful than I thought.
Nothing like the enemy working to instill fear into everyone.
The things that liberals believe and hold on to.
I’m just astounded, virtually every day. Seems at least one of them finds some new low of stupidity each day. This article is a shining example.
I could always pray for snow next week. He does have a great sense of humor.
I just watched the video. What’s with the temps in celcius?
This is a little old, but good. Makes fun of Algore and others. I watched only the first 10 minutes or so- will watch rest later.
“Nobel Laureate in Physics; “Global Warming is Pseudoscience”
Erma Gawd. The desert is hot
[Entire nations may soon be under water.]
This liberal dimbulb is beyond ridiculous.
I am from Arizona. It's been hotter that hell in the Sonoran desert forever.
This is like saying, OMG it is snowing in Alaska! The world is coming to an end. Horrors!
I played golf one summer Friday afternoon about 10-15 years ago, walking a hilly course in east Phoenix. It was hot but nothing unusual I thought. I like the heat.
When I got home that evening and watched the news on TV, they said it was a record 122 degrees in Phoenix that day. Could have fooled me. Hot but not especially uncomfortable.
One more thing you can't believe CNN about.
If I remember correctly, 1936 was the hottest year on record. Portland, Oregon recorded a high of somewhere around 110 degrees. We didn’t even have millions of SUV’ s on the road then.
It is cold and wet and miserable and rainy here in the PNW.
The temperature hasn’t gone above 70* yet, and tomorrow is the first day of summer, FCOL!
My friend was just down in Cali last week (silly girl ended up at a party in INGLEWOOD! Yikes.), and she said that it was pretty cool down there too, from LA, up the coast road, San Fran, Sacto, etc.
Was 119 today. It’s almost 8 pm now and it’s 108.
Our power went out 3 times in the last hour, each outage lasted about 10 minutes. After the 3rd outage I went out in my yard, turned the hose nozzle on mist and pointed the nozzle strsight up. I was showered with a cool refreshing mist and I’m still feeling cool and wonderful.
Water and evaporation are miraculous things, thank you God. :0)
Nice. Genuinely nice!
Until this week it has seemed cooler than normal where I live. It is the normal time of year for it to be hot; not sure if she knows what a desert is...
The media likes to be dramatic about the heat, constantly posting temperatures, every other report is something related to the heat. Years ago people just dealt with summer heat or moved if they didn’t want to deal with it.
The temperatures in parts of the middle east can get that high.
LOL
