Too bad they won't marry their kid's moms and give them financial support.
While castigating people for believing the stereotype, she pretty much shows that it, like most stereotypes, is based on a reality.
The title of the article belied the article itself. It could have been so good, but instead devolved into just another “too many black men are in prison” diatribe.
For me, as a white guy, I’m gratified when I see men, black or white standing up and acting as men.
That means getting married, getting settled, then having kids. That means being a true father for your kids.
I’ve recently come to know a young man, maybe 30. He manages a self-storage facility, and takes great pride in his work. He’s pleasant and talks constantly of his wife and son. He’s married and devoted to them and to serving his customers. He happens to be black.
The kid next door, also happens to be black looks like a total thug. Dreadlocks, tattoos, gold teeth, the works. He’s an anomaly. He goes to college, works two hard jobs, is saving up for a house so he can get married, is extremely pleasant and keeps his music to himself. I’ve never heard loud thumps coming from his car, his or his friends. A really like the kid and hope he does well.
Blah, blah, blah! It’s not only missing black fathers being a major problem. It’s also about missing black mothers.
Grandmothers (black and white) are now “trying” to raise the children of their offspring.
I’m guessing grandmothers are doing the best they can...but raising “multiple” children when they were young is not the same as trying to raise them when they are much older.
