<< It has taken years to convince Dad that the Democrats are not the party of the little guy >>
The widespread misconception that the Dems are the party of the little guy has hurt conservatism perhaps more than any other.
Such a beautiful Fathers Day tribute!
During Army Basic Training at Ft. Gordon, GA in 1957, on a Sunday morning outside the Mess Hall, a black kid selling Sunday papers was doing a “Hambone” rhythmic act, slapping hands together, on his panlegs and occasionally on his mouth while singing, for tips. A black NCO happened by, saw the kid, got all irate, chewed him out, called him a disgrace to the negro race and chased him off the base. Over the years I’ve seen a few hambone routines, but none that could hold a candle to that black kid. I’ve never forgotten the hurt and shame on that kid’s face, inflicted by a pompous adult who, to my mind, was ashamed of his roots.
