(Excerpt) Read more at telegraph.co.uk ...
Bild reported in its online edition that Kohl died in the morning in his home in Ludwigshafen, in western Germany.
“We mourn,” Kohl’s Christian Democratic Union party (CDU) tweeted with a picture of the former chancellor.
Germany’s longest serving post-war chancellor from 1982 to 1998, Kohl was a driving force behind the introduction of the euro currency, convincing sceptical Germans to give up their cherished deutschemark.

No kidding.
Thought he passed a long time ago...
RIP
Agreed, I thought he was dead years ago, but I might have been thinking of Erich Honecker.
RIP.
So, he’s kohl to the touch now?
Years ago, I believe his wife passed away. I remember it being reported as a suicide. She had a health condition that she couldn’t live with, I guess. I think it was a skin disease, she couldn’t even go outside.
The last of the triumvirate.
When the Western World was still the Western World.
Agree!!! Was stationed in West Germany in the early 80s.
RIP.
This is an excellent photo.
Or maybe we should start calling it the Kohl Controversy.
I’ll take the Mandela Effect.
Thank you for your service.
Awesome pic.
I remember a story that was reported when Kohl was chancellor (early in his tenure). He was in the US and attending a social function. An American came up to him and said, “I’m of German descent!” Kohl replied, “So am I.”
