Fr. Henri Boulad s.j., a Melkite (Greek Catholic) priest, member of the Jesuit order like the current Pope Francis and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Ottawa, Terrence Prendergast. He was born in 1930 in Alexandria, Egypt of Syro-Lebanese parentage and grew up in Egypt where he is currently Director of of the Cultural Center, run by the Jesuits in Alexandria. He studied theology and philosophy in Lebanon and France and holds a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Chicago.

He returned to his country, Egypt in 1967 where he still serves today since 2009 as Director of of the Cultural Center, run by the Jesuits in Alexandria. Fr. Henri Boulad is an advocate and activist for human rights, notably the rights and welfare of children. Fr. Henri Boulad is a privileged observer of the Arab Spring, especially the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, the Mohamed Morsi presidency and its ouster by the Egyptian Army following mass protests against Morsi and his pro-Moslem Brotherhood government. and the recent election of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as Egypt’s new President. and a privileged witness of the radical transformation of Egyptian, predominantly Moslem society from what it was during his youth when Egypt was a constitutional monarchy and what it has become today. Fr. Henri Boulad has published nearly 30 books in French and Arabic, mostly on the subject of Christian spirituality and theology, several of which have been translated in up to 15 languages. He was promoted by France to the rank ofOfficier then Commandeur de l’Ordre du Mérite National.
