I’m actually impressed as how “not Confederate” Fort Sumter was, and how striking for the war to start there. It is literally an artificial island built & occupied by the US military. All the other forts were on legitimately Confederacy-governed land, and were duly abandoned. Sumter was as clearly Northern-owned as could be. I contend that the Southern assault thereon constituted (if arguably subject to legitimate arbitration) an attack on a foreign country, which justifiably pushed back until the offending party relented, returning Fort Sumter and (oddly) all lands associated therewith.
By my pet theory, the entire war could have been avoided by letting the North keep the military island they literally built. This also expresses US axioms: we recover our own, people & property, at all costs - it’s something that differentiates us from most other cultures.

I’m very happy that there were not more people hurt. Whoever this person was they were not very well trained or were using a light caliber weapon or maybe a shot gun. No matter, I’m glad this was not a tactical team that was well armed and well trained or some John Wick type.
These folks dodged a bullet, no pun intended.

One of the 5 is the shooter, I think. Tells me that he wasn't practiced, and that his targets were able to avoid by motion or cover. Also, my gut tells me half of the shots were defensive from the Capitol Police detail assigned to Scalise.

I seriously doubt he shoots. He's a lawyer by trade. However, he's an opponent of gun control. That said, I'd be pretty confident he doesn't know one gun from another even though the NRA supports him. He may be a secret carpet-bagger, though, he was born in Manhattan (NYC), graduated from Univ of Illinois, then moved South and got a law degree from the Univ of TN. After graduation he moved to the Chattanooga area & opened an Law practice. I don't know, he may be a "born again" Southerner and really does have Southern values. But, as to his familiarity with guns? I don't think so.
