The police cordon surrounding a huge tower block fire in Notting Hill has been pushed back amid concerns the whole building could collapse.
An exclusion zone was set up overnight as flames raged through the 27-storey Grenfell Tower near Ladbroke Grove causing debris to crash down the side of the building. As firefighters continued to battle the flames on Wednesday morning the cordon has reportedly been widened over concerns about the stability of the building, which contains 120 flats and is located in a densely populated area of west London.
A Met Police spokeswoman confirmed there were significant cordons in place and said they would release a further statement later.

Heard a young man interviewed several hours ago on BBC. He has lived in the building his entire life—23 years. Said the building had been recently “rejuvenated,” including new windows and the the exterior “clapboard.” He said the exterior facade is what appeared to be spreading the fire so quickly.
The few remains there will have been cremated quite thoroughly, I am sure.
My sympathies to those who lost loved ones. NOBODY deserves to die that way. Nobody.
I wonder if they retrofitted with an EIFS - Exterior Insulation and Funish System. While flame spread/smoke developed ratings of the foam are typically constrained by building codes, the foam *is* ultimately flammable.
But buildings don’t collapse due to fire according to the 9/11 “truthers”.
I bought some supposedly fire retarding foam what a joke burn faster then the material around it when I tested it.

article hints at EPS or similar insulated cladding added
extremely nasty stuff once it ignites - toxic smoke, difficult to kill.
academic paper on the likely cladding used
BTW firm that installed cladding went bust
I wish I could do more than pray for all affected by this horrific tragedy.
A spray on foam insulation that worked well as a fire insulation if applied on a horizontal surface.
But if applied to a vertical surface was practically an accelerant that gave off toxic fumes.
Unless I'm mistaken that building was "social housing"...meaning welfare housing.
Just sayin'....
Reminds me of that high rise fire in Dubai last year. Flames looked like they were spreading over the exterior in that fire, IIRC...
I assume you bought a fire block foam. If you read the label, it’s not meant to be a flame retardant. The industry required terminology is fireblock but the products actual use is to prevent air and toxic gases from moving between rooms through floor and wall penetrations in the event of a fire.
It’s designed to give occupants a safer means of escape.
I wonder if setting large buildings on fire is a new muzzie tactic. No wait, it started with the World Trade Center on 9/11.

It is just that sometimes there are cameras around and we see it before our eyes. In the time this building burned, there were a LOT of brutal rapes, spouse beatings, murders, auto accident fatalities and other accidental deaths and maimings.
Not to downplay this, but I find it necessary to do that mental exercise when I see those pictures of a kid with cancer or some other illness on facebook asking for a like. I scan past them like they are not there.
If you could really SEE all the evil happening in the world right now, you would go insane.
Thanks for the post(s). Interesting; informative.
In videos, you could see burning melted material falling off the building in spurts and streams. Exterior foam insulation board is a good guess, I think.
