As opposed to opiates?
A growing body of research (acknowledged by the National Institute on Drug Abuse) has shown that opiate deaths and overdoses actually decrease in states with medical marijuana laws on the books.
If people can legally access medical marijuana for back pain, they can stay aware from prescribed opiates which are far more dangerous and destructive.

The last thing we need is even more federal over reach into the States.

I was so excited to see him nominated for AG. WTH is he doing? He's going after medical marijuana? Conservatives are supposed to believe in States rights not trample on them! For God's sake marinol has been used for years to help cancer pts and dementia pts regain an appetite. They're not getting high! If he's still worried about drugs how about you crack down on that border. Or concern yourself with the FDA the biggest pusher of dangerous drugs in the country! Hell statin drugs are more dangerous than cannabis. What a freaking disappointment he's turning out to be.

Exactly. Plus it’s pretty hard to overdose on medical marijuana.

As a chronic pain patient (I have psoriatic arthritis and a spinal defect that has my spine sitting 25 degrees left of center), marijuana does not work for me and I hate how it makes me feel. I use opiates to control my pain and they work just fine. I resent the Fed getting in between my doctor and me on this issue. They can go after illegal distribution all they want, but please leave the rest of us who use these drugs responsibly, alone.
