One reason I'm outraged at this Senate Bill pushed by Gov Brown is that the gas taxes will go to the general fund, and not specifically for fixing roads as was the case in the past. That means the gas taxes raised can and most likely will be diverted to other pet projects. Plus the politicians, in future years, will again want to raise taxes to fix the roads because the money was diverted.
Oldest trick in the book for any government:
“We are taxing you for X. We are way underfunded on X.” (sotto voce - “but we are secretly spending your money on Y”)
