California voters overwhelmingly oppose a recent tax and fee package pushed by Gov. Jerry Brown and the Democratic-dominated Legislature to pay for road repairs, a new poll finds.
The gas tax law, which ushers in a 10-year program to raise more than $52 billion for transportation projects, is so unpopular it could backfire on Democrats in upcoming elections.
Fifty eight percent of voters oppose Senate Bill 1, including 39 percent who say they strongly reject the legislation, according to the survey from UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies. Only 35 percent favor the law, which raises taxes on gasoline and diesel and hikes vehicle registration fees to fix roads and highways.
The opposition is widespread. Voters in all major regions of the state other than the Bay Area, all listed races and ethnic subgroups, and all age categories over 30 are unhappy about it. Strongly liberal voters are the only group in which a large majority supports the law.
Senate Bill 1 endeavors to raise $5.2 billion annually through a 12-cent gas tax increase that begins in November and a new fee based on the value of vehicles.

California is one of the states that makes me think my state (Massachusetts) is relatively sane.
They want to enter into some kind of climate accord with the Paris “signatories” on their own which is going to furter tax and depress their state, but...
Then they want to tax their own citizens on gas to pay for this, unlimited benefits for illegals, trains that go nowhere, sanctuary cities and such.
At some point, those good people who are left are going to leave. Or explode.
And I wouldn’t mind, but they will go back to the Federal well for money from everyone else.

How is this any different than the rubes down in Venezuela who adored Hugo Chavez because he cared about the little guy? Because Chavez cared they voted for him twice along with his successor. Chavez then proceeded to loot and destroy the entire country, just like Democrats.

Tennessee’s alleged “Republican” governor and legislature just hiked their gas tax. If I am on the border of any other state where the tax is lower guess where I am buying my gas.
Bill Haslam and the Tennessee Republican party are big government Democrats circa 1970’s. Remember this when this slime bag runs for his fellow slime bag Limp Wrist Lamar’s senate seat in the future.
Just wait until moonbeam tries to give BILLIONS of our dollars away to other countries to “fight global warming.” Or when the state government tries to spend $400 BILLION for a socialized healthcare system. Or flushing $100 BILLION on a damnable train that won’t do anything for the state (and probably won’t ever get out of the Central Valley whistle stops).
Somehow people can get outraged at ten cents more a gallon at the pump, but ignore the far bigger issues that are killing this once-beautiful state.

They haven’t even gotten to the single payer health care and climate change taxes yet.
The State of California is run under a dictatorship. The Governor is no different than Kim among, and the lawmakers are no different than the KGB of the Old Soviet Union. Any dissent is treated as “deplorables” further isolating the poor and middle class from the Communist Political Party. The Democrats want a one party, one solution, one ideology State, where those who disagree must either assimilate or leave.

Most in Kalifornistan are believers in the cult of globull warming. They would enjoy a $10 / gallon gasoline tax! Think of everything moonbeam could do with all that money. Bullet trains, give money to China to fight globull warming, pay for college for illegals, fund more rapugees - the uses of the billions in new money would be endless.
