The Justice Department released a statement on James Comey's testimony on Thursday that attempts to set the record straight on some of the former FBI director's remarks.
The statement focuses on a piece of Comey's testimony in which he claimed he was not aware of any memo saying that Attorney General Jeff Sessions would be recusing himself from any investigations into alleged links between the Trump campaign (of which he was a part) and Russian officials.
.."In his testimony, Mr. Comey stated that he was 'not *** aware of' 'any kind of memorandum issued from the Attorney General or the Department of Justice to the FBI outlining the parameters of [the Attorney Generals] recusal.," read the statement.
However, on March 2, 2017, the Attorney Generals Chief of Staff sent the attached email specifically informing Mr. Comey and other relevant Department officials of the recusal and its parameters, and advising that each of them instruct their staff not to brief the Attorney General *** about, or otherwise involve the Attorney General *** in, any such matters described, read the statement.

“How is this significant to his testimony?”
His credibility, his memory of events. How good was his memory in recalling the meeting with President Trump? A lawyer will have a field day with this and other items.
Comedy merely forgot to write memo about reading doj memo.
Because when pressed why he did not notify his boss at the DOJ if he believed that he was being pressured to halt the investigation, his boss being Jeff Sessions.
Trump might have made a mistake not firing this guy on day one but after looking at this testimony today it’s clear that Trump wasn’t wrong about Comey being a showboat and a whack job.
This was a political assassination attempt.
They failed
Trump needs to make these degenerate scumbag communists pay.
All bets are off.
Also a Nut Job and a Weasel...
HARRIS: ... OK. So was there any kind of memorandum issued from the attorney general or the Department of Justice to the FBI, outlining the parameters of his recusal?COMEY: Not that I'm aware of.
Comey, and many pothers, mischaracterize Sessions' recusal as related to Russia. The recusal does not mention Russia. The recusal is into wrondoings by the Trump campaigns (which I take as primary and general election campaigs, but the recual letter is ambiguous, and might be Trump and Clinton campaigns - although he does NOT have any conflict of interest in investigating Clinton).
Attorney General Sessions Statement on Recusal
Attorney General Jeff Sessions today issued the following statement: "During the course of the confirmation proceedings on my nomination to be Attorney General, I advised the Senate Judiciary Committee that `[i]f a specific matter arose where I believed my impartiality might reasonably be questioned, I would consult with Department ethics officials regarding the most appropriate way to proceed.'"During the course of the last several weeks, I have met with the relevant senior career Department officials to discuss whether I should recuse myself from any matters arising from the campaigns for President of the United States.
"Having concluded those meetings today, I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for President of the United States.
"I have taken no actions regarding any such matters, to the extent they exist.
"This announcement should not be interpreted as confirmation of the existence of any investigation or suggestive of the scope of any such investigation.
"Consistent with the succession order for the Department of Justice, Acting Deputy Attorney General and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Dana Boente shall act as and perform the functions of the Attorney General with respect to any matters from which I have recused myself to the extent they exist."

And from his written testimony provided before the hearing:
James Comey Timeline on Not Informing Jeff Sessions Doesnt Add Up
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3559024/posts
February 8th AG Jeff Sessions confirmed
February 14th Comey meets with President Trump (oval office above)
March 1st AG Sessions and Ambassador Kislyak controversy begins. (link)
March 2nd Sessions recuses himself from the Russian Investigation. (link)
See the problem? At the time outlined by FBI Director James Comey, February 14th, there was nothing to indicate Attorney General Jeff Sessions would recuse himself.
>>>Comey claimed he (illegally) leaked his (allegedly) contemporaneous memo in response to Trump’s “tapes tweet.” The only problem is, Comey orchestrated his leak on May 11th, but Trump did not tweet about the existence of any taping of Comey until May 12th.
While the Times did publish an article on May 11 describing the January 27 dinner in which Trump purportedly asked Comey for his loyalty, the Times cited officials who recalled Comeys descriptions of the evening to them, not the memos themselves.
Entire government isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.
Comey should be indictable. Right now.
I'm not saying perjury doesn;t stand, just that people naturally forget to ask if the lie affects the outcome of the decision being made, or misleads the people involved in making the decision.
The senate committee hearing today had no purpose that i can discern. If the purpose was to probe Russian interference in the eleciton, questions about Comey and Trump are out of place, and the witness can lie about that line of question, with impunity.
Trump does need to take “All the trash out”. He needs to get one thing on each of the major players and that should not be hard to do. Hillary has admitted to sending classified emails. She is hip deep in pay to play. Obama has F&F, espionage against trump, etc... Charge them all. Plea them out and that will stop the confrontations by the Anti-Trumpers and LIbs. McCain could be charged with various crimes along with Brennan, Comey, Clapper, et al...What are they waiting for. More fake scandals against Trump to tie up the Gov’t.
Firing Comey set a trap and he walked right in.
this should be in breaking news...
It’s all about “intent”...
“How is this significant to his testimony?”
By (i) showing he has a poor memory, and thus you cannot rely on his testimony or (ii) showing he is a liar, and thus you cannot rely on his testimony.
The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence exists to certify for the other 85 members of the United States Senate and the American people that the intelligence community is operating lawfully and has the necessary authorities and tools to accomplish its mission and keep America safe. Part of our mission, beyond the oversight we continue to provide to the intelligence community and its activities, is to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections. The committee's work continues. This hearing represents part of that effort. That's the opening statement for this hearing. It is likely also why Comey insisted he was fired becuase Trump aimed to curtail investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections. His testimony in that regard was contradictory though, in that Comey testified his firing has no effect on any ongoing investigation.
"Get (or clear) Trump" is not the intended function of this hearing. Going there was a purely political activity endorsed by all of the participants.
Exactly. He also set a terrible example with his memo leak. And the FBI investigates leakers of classified INFO. Regardless of the non classified INFO of his leak-he set a bad example.

If you come at the king, you’d best not miss
So many lies, so little time.
