At the start of my last call for jury duty, the bailiff told everyone to pull out their cell phones and with turn them off or completely (no vibrate) silence them. There would be no excuses for ringing phones or beeping watched.
I recently discovered that an Amber Alert makes noise, even when the ringer is turned off.
