It’s odd that with all the news reports being written about her, none of the reporters apparently thought to ask her parents where she got her unusual name. And there don’t seem to be any direct interviews with old friends or classmates either. The Guardian only went this far on her name:

the Air Force commendation medal is about being in a unit that gets a big pat on the back. It is awarded to the unit and the individuals get it automatically.
This is very misrepresented as her getting something she earned as an individual.
An AF Commendation Medal at the end of a 4 year tour is standard.
EVERYONE gets one.
REMF’s have been giving each other awards as long as there have been wars.
The majority of the awards are about as meaningful as Participation Trophies.
