The Republican dominated Kansas Legislature that has soured on Gov. Sam Brownbacks vision for the state voted late Tuesday to roll back the governors signature tax cuts.
Lawmakers voted to override Brownbacks veto of a tax plan estimated to bring the state more than $1.2 billion over a two-year span.
The Senate vote was 27 to 13, and the House followed by agreeing 88 to 31 to supersede the Republican governors wishes on the tax plan and force the changes into law.
Lawmakers marshaled together a coalition of moderate Republicans, conservatives and Democrats to overcome the governors opposition to seeing his landmark tax cuts, which have in large part come to define his tenure in Topeka, fundamentally come to an end.
Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine, an Emporia Republican, said that he respects the governor and other lawmakers.
Respect to me does not mean blind agreement, Longbine said.
A major vote in the House came from the leading Republican in the chamber.

WELL, YOU ASSUMED WRONG.
So now Kansan’s can blame the faceless legislature and idiot judges. The Governor tried and got over ridden. Guess it aint his fault no more.
We can blame the next guy we hire to fix it and leave hanging on a pike.
We should invade Puerto Rico. They need some guidance.
I apologize for shouting at you earlier today. I was/am very upset about the situation, but it certainly isn’t your fault. I hope you forgive me. :(
Not a problem. The Border War continues, at least in cyberspace. :)
I did my part in contacting my state rep and senator. It apparently did no good but was hoping the Brownback veto would hold like last time.
We lost our good conservative reps on the last election go round after the local media’s anti-Brownback, anti-republican campaign. That cost our state houses many good conservatives and was replaced by more statist liberal types. The local medias did the same things to get the very liberal Sebelius elected as Governor in the past.
The local medias are a huge problem in this state as they are just propaganda outlets for the left when it comes to politics. They support big government and will report everything good about it and attack and demonize anyone against it.
The local medias fail to cover the other side of the story and that is the all the problems and consequences of big government. I’ve had many of email exchanges with news directors and how they fail to give the other side of the story. They swear up and down their political news coverage is fair and balanced. When these people fail to see reality, we have a huge problem with our media misleading the people.
We already have many businesses, local and national, closing down and/or leaving. Many Kansans are leaving as well. This is only going to make things worse but you never hear about these consequences of too much government from the local medias. I just wish more Kansans would realize, these corporate-owned leftist media outlets do not have their best interests at heart.
Of course, the media is a huge national problem as well. The medias, owning the political narratives, is not going to change until more Americans/Kansans wake up. President Trump is a good start to tearing down this wall but we all need to get out there and expose their lies and manipulations even more.

Dan, it’s not rocket science. Get control of your education spending, Medicaid and state employee pension costs, and KS can dig it’s way out. Those 3 programs will bankrupt your state.
So true, the crazy thing about this is they are both co-equal parts of our state government. The legislative branch could tell the judicial branch where to stick their rulings when it comes to legislative business but they don't. My guess it is in fear of our local medias and how they would be beat down in the local press for doing so.
These tyrants in black robes, with their new cars, new houses, gated communities and probably have sent or sent their kids to private schools, haven't a clue about the normal, everyday, struggling Kansan, just to keep a roof over their families heads and food on the table. They are absolutely clueless on how these things affect everyday, responsible, tax-paying, Kansans.
We all need to start to stand up to this corrupt local medias and corrupt judicial branch, if we are to get any kind of responsibility in state government again.

Dan, those other programs, and things like waste and fraud, are more sacred calves than cows. And it’s the big cows you have to worry about. The rest of that stuff just nibbles away at the edges, like paying on interest but not principal.
And to add to your comments, the fact that the liberal judges are in de facto control of the state education spending magnifies our budget woes.
Thank you for doing your part Conservative Gato :)
