Federal contractor Reality Leigh Winner arrested for sending classified NSA intelligence(trunc)
The Washington Examiner ^ | June 5th, 2017 | by Kyle Feldscher

Posted on 06/05/2017 3:44:45 PM PDT by Mariner

A 25-year-old federal contractor is facing charges she leaked a classified National Security Agency document to a news outlet in May.

The charges against Reality Leigh Winner came about an hour after the publication of a story based on an NSA document detailing Russian attempts to hack American voting systems in 2016.

President Trump has been pushing Justice to go after leakers inside the federal government, which he has identified as "the big story" when it comes to Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Winner's arrest could signal the federal government is going to aggressively investigate and prosecute individuals who send classified intelligence to news organizations.

Trump and other Republican allies in Washington have made pursuing leakers one of their top priorities, but Winner is the first to face charges for releasing classified intelligence.

Winner, of Augusta, Ga., is facing charges that she removed classified material from a government facility and mailed it to a news outlet. She was arrested on Saturday and appeared on the charge Monday.

YUP, she's a Leftard. Also, she's admitted the crime to investigators. This should be a slam dunk so far as prosecution and conviction go, so long as we don't get a loony prosecutor and/or judge to help her out.

Quite a tat:

Sounds like she loved Crazy Uncle Bernie who promised to pay off student loans. And so, by extension, she’s got to love her some Hillary, since Crazy Uncle Bernie took Hillary’s and the DNC’s payoff and went all-in for Hillary.

Maybe her cell will be next to Hillary’s. They can talk about Huma and Weiner. And Seth Rich.

Makes me wonder if they dragged her off Saturday before she had a chance to. I’m guessing her computer was bagged and tagged.

Yes, I’m guessing she was swooped up, interrogated, and hasn’t seen freedom since. She confessed.

I knew dozens of Airmen with TS/SCI clearances that were in their early 20’s.

I was one also. Pentagon from 79-82. Never crossed my mind to commit espionage. A 50 year sentence should send the appropriate message.

She knew they had her. Not a chance.

She might as well have said “This is for you Damien. It’s all for you!”.

Good point. One does not get arrested on felony charges, then go talking about it or anything else on FB.

“The USSC has found that you cannot prosecute the news org due to the First Amendment.

Though there is great debate as to whether that will one day be overturned.”

So, we could use our new clout in the judiciary to “fix” the media? I’m all in.

Also, one of the articles reporter she asked her mom to handle re-locating her pets. Suggests she won’t even get back to her apartment.

HA! college interns have top secret clearances.

No private contractor I know would invest money to get an intern a TS clearance. Add to that it takes months to get such a clearance.

It’s even a worse name to go to prison with than ‘Piper.’ (Orange is the new Black reference).

And what about news organizations who knowingly receive classified information and then blab it to the public? Shouldn’t they be charged as well?

"Should" reduces the question to a matter of opinion. Under the law they can't be prosecuted because they didn't do anything illegal. None of those reporters had security clearance and none of the actually stole anything. The leaker brought it to them so, unlike the leaker, they are in the clear.

Remember the Pentagon Papers case?

Same here, 144th Signal Battalion, 4th Armored Div. Germany, 1966-67. Got the TS Clearance at the age of 21. We were scared to death of the NSA.
