First sentence mistake. A TYPHOON is a boomer, an AKULA is an attack boat. RED OCTOBER was a boomer.
Who’d they steal that idea from?
Nope, the Akula was the Soviet reporting name for what NATO classified as the Typhoon class.

Ping! No pun intended.
Run sirent, run deep.
"Typhoon" is the NATO reporting name for the Soviet Ballistic Missile Project 941 Акула (Akula, Russian for "Shark") submarines.
"Akula" was the NATO reporting name for the Soviet Fast attack Project 971 Щука-Б (Shchuka, Russian for "Pike") submarines.

I suspect that a real MHD drive system such as the one described in the Tom Clancy book would generate a massive magnetic fringing field with a very easy-to-detect time waveform.
We already use magnetic field disturbances to detect enemy submarines (among other means). A multi-megawatt MHD drive system would have made it easier, I’m quite sure.
Give me a ping, Vasili. One ping only, please.
Good question. The ChiComs steal everything. They are not very innovative.
The internet version is an acronym: Packet Inter Net Groper.
Al Gore must have spent time with Joe Biden the day they came up with that one.
don’t kid yourself.
If they are innovative enough to steal, they can innovate.

Now that is a good one
