(It's a Scam) Trump’s Small Opening Shot on Global Warming
Fairfax Free Citizen ^ | June 3, 2017 | Jonathon A Moseley

Posted on 06/03/2017 6:26:56 AM PDT by Moseley

On June 1 President Donald Trump (a) took a giant bite out of the fairy tale of man-made global warming and (b) put a big check mark in his list of campaign promises kept. Other nations will slowly also defect from the Paris Accords, although we will endure hysteria first.

So, we must stop tip-toeing around with weak arguments.

First, we know that the Earth’s orbit changes over time, in overlapping Milankovicth cycles, which affect the Earth’s climate. Cyclical changes in the shape and size of Earth’s orbit cause ice ages. We are now still in a long-term warming trend coming out of the last ice age, having nothing to do with humans. The gravitational pull of the other planets tugs Earth into more oval or circular orbits (and back again) over thousands of years.

Second, consider how absurd the hoax is: What was the temperature of planet Earth just yesterday? Does anyone know? Yes, I mean one single temperature reading for the entire planet. We’d have to average the temperature measurements from all over the planet. But we don’t measure the whole planet, only isolated airports, cities, and selected sites. (Sampling is only predictive if it is truly random.) Temperature changes are overwhelmingly a result of air masses moving around, including to or from places where we don’t have measurements. We don’t know what Earth’s temperature was yesterday. How can we say what it was millions of years ago or will be a hundred years from now?

Third, temperature scales were only invented in the mid-1850s. So there was no way to keep meaningful temperature records before about the 1880s. Scientific instruments have to be calibrated for consistency among different manufacturers and different units. People didn’t start keeping meticulous records right away even in the few locations measured.

“Wealth redistribution” is too neutral and inaccurate a term. The more accurate name for that activity is “legalized robbery”. We on the right should stop using the left’s language.

The only ethical and moral wealth redistribution is voluntary charity.

Yes, but keeping records that can be meaningfully compared over the centuries is another thing. The thermometer in London and the thermometer in Rome won’t have any meaningful comparison unless they are standardized and callibrated so that the manufacture is consistent and the scale grading is the same.

But we don’t measure the whole planet, only isolated airports, cities, and selected sites.

The author apparently doesn't know about satellite data.

And too bad that he doesn't because that data supports his argument by showing that the earth hasn't warmed in 20 years.

“he does call it a scam”

Thank you - I was waiting for someone to point that out.

How any conservative can find fault with that speech, I don’t know.

Also, I’m not sure I agree with the premise of this post - that all issues must be argued on principle.

Taxes for example. Its tempting to tell a leftist that the federal income tax is unconstitutional, but what a waste of time that conversation is. Better to talk about the fiscal stimulus effect of the JFK tax cuts.

If you read Trump’s statement on the Paris pullout, he does call it a scam, although the words he used were wealth redistribution. Which is what a scam is.

The wealth redistribution scam is the remedy part of AGW.

The so-called "science" of AGW also needs to be described as a scam.

We wouldn’t accept socialism on its merits; therefore, socialism has to be disguised and passed off as something else.

When I went to college, there were many Vietnamese students that I befriended. One day we were discussing communism. They, all of them, peppered me with their stories.

The gist is that the communists would come into their village or towns and extol the virtues of communism. One villager would say, I need a job. The commies would say that everyone gets a job with communism. Another villager would say there are criminals down the street. The commies would say that crime will be wiped out. Another villager would say I want to go to school and be a doctor. Answer: everyone gets educated with communism.

Whatever the societal or personal ill, communism will fix it. Substitute the word communism with socialism here.

What the commies did not tell them is the jobless one will be drafted into the army for there endless war machine; the communists will take this army and arrest anyone in the village with a criminal history and anyone suspected of criminal activity, never to be seen again; and the uneducated one gets to go to school and be a teacher where the commies tell him to teach, because the revolution needs teachers, not doctors. And so on.

I am a scientist. I do not do research at the bench, but I manage a rather large team of scientists and laboratory personnel who are working on early drug discovery and diagnostic devices development.

Another way to put it is that I am retiring from a career of herding cats. Scientists are *very* independent thinkers.
