The concept and principle are fundamentally unsound.
Children learn primarily by imitation.
By striking a child you teach - beyond anything your words can later undo - that your authority, and authority in general, is rooted in violence.
By striking your child you teach the lesson that violence is a solution to problems.
Unless you are willing to stand on that profoundly amoral principle, it’s time to come to terms with the fact that physical discipline is fundamentally uncivilized. The only legitimate use of force against a child is to protect them from imminent harm - full stop.
Wrong on all counts. See mama bear. Not to use what Mother Nature has taught and embedded in our genes is what is “fundamentally unsound”.
Thank you Dr. Spock.
Never thought I'd read this on FR, of all places. Democrat Underground, sure, but FR?
You people are the amoral ones. Violence IS A SOLUTION to many problems. I will visit righteous violence on anyone who seeks to harm my family with deadly force.
Addressing your attempted point: Spanking a child is not violence; it is loving discipline. People like you are the reason our civilization is crumbling.
