The graphics look WW2 or Depression. My parents had a store in WW2 and the graphics look similar.
Back when a printer’s job of setting type fonts at correct pica sizes and coordinating blocks of script for headline copy were dirty tedious work, but still really good gigs until retirement.
WIKI: Under the SDIO’s Innovative Sciences and Technology Office, headed by physicist and engineer Dr. James Ionson, the investment was predominantly made in basic research at national laboratories, universities, and in industry; these programs have continued to be key sources of funding for top research scientists in the fields of high-energy physics, supercomputing/computation, advanced materials, and many other critical science and engineering disciplines funding which indirectly supports other research work by top scientists, and which was most politically viable to fund within the budget environment.
Laser research funded by the SDI office was disclosed at laser conferences that also included panel discussions on the subject with the participation of James Ionson, Edward Teller, and other prominent advocates of SDI
Safeguard Program was effective. However costs and the the entry into the ABM treaty limited the program to a single site. It was eventually decommissioned, but not because the system was ineffective.
Precisely. Which is not missile striking missile
I happened to have worked on one segment of SDI

“Creme of Tartar isn’t Tartar Sauce “

Reminds me of my late mother-in-law’s cream of tartar biscuits.
Awesome !
.
Thank you, dear Pres. Reagan, for having started this anti-missile program for our safety. The Democrats howled their derision of him, labeling the program “Star Wars” and saying it was impossible to “hit a missile with a missile.”
Pres. Reagan persisted, and the first few trials at Vandenberg in CA failed, causing great glee among the Reagan haters. But then the missiles began to hit the incoming missiles, proving it could be done. The nasty Leftist coasts should thank Ronald Reagan for giving them a measure of safety as the demagogue in North Korea paints a bullseye on their states, but we all know they won’t.

BILL NYE THE SCIENCE LIE (Bill Whittle - Firewall)
(warning: the first part shows a clip of Nye’s show that is rather crude)
While there is immediate euphoria at one upping N. Korea and China by proxy. this capability blows the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) doctrine that the world has lived by for decades completely apart. It’s ironic that Russia and China, who both used the NORK’s as a thorn in our side, have now forced us to take the next step because of their unwillingness to check their client state.
i can only conclude that, logically, Russia and China must possess this capability as well. I can only hope that we have superior laser technology for this purpose superior to today’s intercept that was possibly done for public consumption.
The Apogee (highest point of trajectory) of an ICBM is about 750 miles. Waaay above the atmosphere, so no shock wave from an explosion. Shrapnel from the exploding warhead would do the damage.
Realistically, no need for an explosive warhead to distribute shrapnel - just “dump a bucket of rocks”. At those closing velocities they would do all the damage needed.
Agreed...
I’m not convinced we have this perfected yet though. We’ll see...
Hopefully we’ll have the power to deNork them when the time comes.
That was quick! (stock pouting file)
“:^)
Would be nice.
Several did make it successfully out of the immediate region though.
Are you referring to MIRV tech? Multiple warheads per missile?
Those predictions were about as accurate as the predictions life as we know it would be over by now due to man-caused global warming.
