Guys, I love jarheads! At my sayonara party in 1971 in Japan, we all went to the brig together after a big fight broke out at the Moulin Bar. I was finishing my 2 years active duty in the USNR, all spent in Sasebo.
Notwithstanding the foregoing though, I’m going to pick up the sword of facts for the Army AND the Navy vs the jarheads in WWII.
11,260,000 people served in the Army in WWII. 669,100 served in the Marine Corp. 4,183,446 served in the Navy.
318,274 Mothers sons that were in the Army died or are missing. In the Navy, that same statement can be said about 62,614. In the Marine Corp killed or missing were 24,511.
So, on this Memorial Day, let’s all love our Marines, but this former squid loves all the services.
And, hey jarheads of today, this squid reminds you this Memorial Day 2017 that 62,614 of us died hauling yall’s asses to battle!
Go Navy!
They don’t call them Jarheads for Nothing!
I was Airforce!
I never had an overseas deployment, which is somewhat unusual for a Marine. Desert Shield/Desert Storm era. But I’ll say thanks. My dad was USNR, commanded an LCT on Utah Beach.
Hey, thanks for your service. I had 3 brothers in the Navy in WW2 and one in the Marines in WW2 and I was in the Marines in the Korean fiasco. Had one brother that somehow missed all the wars , called being born under the right stars I guess. Mom came through all the wars with flying colors. Oh yea, just gotta say this, when I was in The Marines we were 20% of the Navy, of course we though it was the best 20%. Like I said, “we are different” lol
