Remember in Band of Brothers, “We Salute the Rank, not the Man”?
It’s the same, We respect the Office, not the Man.
That’s in the Armed Forces; its a whole different hierarchy. They have agreed to respect rank by joining the organization and they need to because they have to instantly obey people they may not even know, in war or emergency situations.
