Europe “must take its fate into its own hands” faced with a western alliance divided by Brexit and Donald Trump’s presidency, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday.
“The times in which we could completely depend on others are on the way out. I’ve experienced that in the last few days,” Merkel told a crowd at an election rally in Munich, southern Germany.
“We Europeans truly have to take our fate into our own hands,” she added.
While Germany and Europe would strive to remain on good terms with America and Britain, “we have to fight for our own destiny,” Merkel went on.
The chancellor had just returned from a G7 summit which wound up Saturday without a deal between the US and the other six major advanced nations on upholding the 2015 Paris climate accords.
Merkel on Saturday labelled the result of the “six against one” discussion “very difficult, not to say very unsatisfactory”.

Merkle continues to cut the throat of Germany. When the Russians or Muslims (well, too late on that one) invade, don’t call us.

Quite a large amount of audacity. Twice the US and UK saved the rest of Europe, from Germany.
Germany has been treated very well, in spite of their war making. I do not think they have earned a right, to lead yet.

At least now, she’s going to have to do it solely on her dime. And we need to help out by cutting of the purchase of their “Nazi Thunderbirds” ( i.e. Mercedes, BMW, Pooshe, Audi, etc.). If you need a “luxury car,” buy something from the Italians or the Japanese. Or, horror of horrors, buy an American car.

merkel is a easy figure of fun. However, we should recognize she is a ( by german standards ) believer in free market capitalism. On the home front she achieved many of the economic reforms we all hope Trump implements.
Merkel’s Germany has a massive budget surpluses, a labor shortage, and perfectly smooth superhighways. She whips her parliament into using the surpluses to pay down debt instead of squandering the taxpayers funds.
On the other hand, the opposition candidate is a extreme socialist nutjob.
While we might dislike Merkel, the alternative is very bad.
You get your energy form Russia only. LOL, she is in no position to do anything. Merkel is an idiot or she is working for the Russians.
Then why is she so pissed off at Trump?
