Two Chinese J-10 fighter jets with air-to-air missiles under its wings flew within 200 yards of a U.S. Navy P-3 surveillance plane approximately 150 miles southeast of Hong Kong this week, a U.S. defense official told Fox News on Friday.
The official said the Chinese fighter jets were unsafe in their actions toward the U.S. reconnaissance plane in international airspace Wednesday. One of the Chinese jets flew out in front of the Navy plane before conducting a series of slow turns which the American crew considered unsafe, the official added.

This hearkens back to one of those instances in which GWB in his first months of office did not push back against the PRC. Because of 9/11 just months afterward that incident got little sustained attention. I hope DJT continues to show resolve.
Wong Wei flies again?
Me too. Who can forget the Hainan Island incident from 2001. I pray our men and women stay safe out there.
Out of control, they were desperately smashing up and chucking out sensitive stuff all the way to landing and then for some time after.
The entire nosecone came off, the body of the Chinese pilot (whose name --not kidding-- was WONG WEI) was never recovered.
The Chinese in fact did recover a LOT of stuff from the plane, though.
The crew were "guests" for about 10 days or so, as I recall.
There was a forma apology and some type of payment, as I recall.
“I pray our men and women stay safe out there.”
Occupational hazard. Fighter cowboys are the same throughout the world. These games of “chicken” are the same for everyone.
From the 60’s to present, the Russians have been invading American air space over the Alaskan peninsula with all kinds of aircraft causing our fighters to scramble and invite them to leave with some of the same tactics used by the Chinese here.
What goes around...........

Doesn’t seem to be much of a secret.
Probably trying to get another one to see if we have any improvements.
Given that incident, isn't there some way to provide an escort, or some other protection, when they're flying near the Chicoms?
just part of the job description
an escort would only increase luminous of a incident which no one wants
I used to fly on AWACS C-121’s in the late ‘60’s and we usually had a fighter CAP in the Gulf of Tonkin.
