The ideology of Friend beats the ideology of enemy, but who today actually calls on Jesus to be a Friend and then follows through on the demands of the consequences?

Yeah, hallucinogens are sooo safe. Just ask some of the patients at psychiatric hospitals.

Or you could ask the millions of Americans who have tried hallucinogens who aren't in psychiatric hospitals.

.... a new survey of drug users suggests that these psychedelics are actually some of the safest...

A survey of users of hard drug users? At HuffyPo, of course. I’ll bet they didn’t have to look very hard for a sample group to survey from their base of fringe lunatic liberal readers.

There was a story recently about a “feminist man” who was hanging out with some of his feminist buds just having a good time, he ate some shrooms, started getting paranoid and shot a young woman to death before the night was over. Apparently a good portion of the evening was streamed to youtube. I didn’t see it but saw a few people talking about it over the last week.

>>These people are nuttier than squirrel poop.

Yeah but it's "spiritual" squirrel poop.

"Here is my progressive, "spiritual", tolerant opinion

- now you shut up and agree to disagree... you nazi"

Funny how that seems to work.

I’ve done that.

Wouldn’t do it again.

It was very foggy that night.

It can be a life altering experience and not in a good way.

It can also be an incredibly powerful, joyful, exhilarating and unforgettable life-altering experience.

I tried LSD about a half dozen or so times in college. Mushrooms, about the same. Only had one bad "trip" where I spent several hours alone in my room, not wishing to be sociable. The other times ranged from "meh" to incredible bonding experiences that I'll never forget.

I'd never touch the stuff now but I don't regret trying it when I was younger. FWIW, LSD fell out of favor when fake stuff started hitting the market and by fake, I mean blotter paper with nothing at all on it. Too easy to get burned out of $5, $10, $20 or more on a tiny piece of paper. By then, ecstasy was hitting the scene, offering a more manageable and tactile high.

Those wouldn't by any chance be the same Americans who demonstrate their psychotic detachment from reality every time they vote, would it?

Dooooods! Where's the Republic?

I’ve always heard the exact opposite.
There must be a modern day version of Timothy Leery who advises wild mushrooms for whatever sickness you may have.
Yeah, whatever.

I’ve read stories such as the 28 y/o Karate Expert who consumed some mushrooms at a friends home, then ‘woke up’ to discover he ripped the heart out of his friends chest and was consuming it. This was about four years ago in the states.

I know of mushrooms being used for foods and for ceremonial purposes, but one has to be very careful in selecting them.
I only purchase mushrooms from grocery stores, and then only for eating.

I dunno... I voted for Trump. So did most of my friends from college.

I’m ambivalent about psychedelic drugs
I had a vast amount experience with real LSD and fresh plump mushrooms teeming with psilocybin as well as some peyote buttons here and there

Last experience was summer 1977

Millions of people have used these drugs and a handful who did were members of the Manson family

The tag smoker or drinker or orgy participant is just as much an indicator

However Charlie did use the girls natural malleability and drugs as part of his manipulative medicine bag

No question

Nor do I think psychedelics are safe

They can be life altering for the fragile

One needs a strong sense of self and everyone doesn’t have that

Trying to explain the self realization or connectedness or elemental awareness one feels in such drugs is impossible to explain to folks who haven’t done it

Drinking is an anesthetic .. numbing agent all cloudy and goofy and strips self control away or exaggerates irritants for some

Marijuana stimulates at first a heightened giddy sense but fades into a depressed couch lock watch TV and be inward for most

Psychedelics are so intense especially at 1965-1974 doses

I guard the experience for what it was but I don’t advise it for everyone especially women

I would not change at least not for me

Besides having a wife and family and being a Christian and southerner those experiences from that era are huge markers in my life

No question about it

Which belies the whole premise of the article

these are not recreational drugs

In the early 80’s husband and I worked in a Christian mission directed toward Westerners traveling in Nepal. We helped local mission hospital as they treated tourists and hippies. One of the people we helped was a British WHO nurse who had been stationed in Laos. She decided to try these less harmful mushrooms while vacationing. Little kids were selling them on the street, so how harmful could they be, right? My husband met her as he rescued her from climbing the barbed wire fence encircling the hospital compound. She was totally out of her mind. It took three weeks for her to even begin to be normal again and at that point she described how she had hallucinated eating children (which was a real thing she witnessed in Laos). She had a hard time believing still her guilt was imaginary because what she experienced was so real. Meanwhile, the British embassy took her passport, purchased the next plane flight home and charged her bank account for the service. (Interesting difference between the Brits and us regarding civil liberties!) One bite of a mushroom destroyed this woman’s life for quite a few years. Yep. They are certainly less harmful. (eye roll)
