I would highly recommend trying to finish reading The Mote in God's Eye. It is an excellent book, and has some interesting insights into human behavior.

I think of liberals like the brownies in the book. The brownies were always tinkering, and often would seem to improve the devices they were playing with. But they would never stop tinkering, and eventually would destroy everything they touched. Just like liberals.

I remember that the aliens were specialized, but made general purpose tools, in contrast with humans, who are "general purpose," but make specialized tools.
