So ISIS and ISIL are different?
From my understanding they are the same group. Their name depends on who’s saying it and/or who the audience is.
Intellectuals like Obama and John Kerry use the term ISIL out of respect to the terrorists since that is what THEY want to be called to show their territorial claims extend beyond Iraq and Syriac
The people who have disdain or worse for them call them daesh, which is an insult
Every once in a while a brave govt calls them daesh, but not often enough
