I find this touching/not touching event extremely interesting. I will be spending my next few evenings studying the works of Freud who I am sure will be able to provide some insight. At first glance I’m guessing that Mr. Trump is feeling alone in the world in spite of being surrounded by welcoming hosts. He reaches out to the ONE person that he truly feels complete with. However, she is reminded in that split instant of her father reaching for her hand to cajole her into entering her classroom on her first day of school.
The hard part will be to determine if it is the fear of entering the classroom, or the defiant attitude of a confident little girl saying “I can do this myself.” Or - she IS full of anxiety, but decides that she, and only she can overcome those fears.

I have noticed where Donald is mostly in the foreground (the photos in Israel, walking first down the carpet, etc.) I’m guessing that it is their way (Melania’s way?) of respecting the presidential office.
In any case we must always assume the absolute worst—the patriarchy crushing the very attractive first lady’s right to not hold hands when she wants to not hold hands on diplomatic excursions into powerful oil-rich sand nations.
I am sorry America had to witness this great injustice.
