When the interviewer interjected that the murder may have been a robbery, Assange pushed back.
"No," he said. "There’s no finding. So… I’m suggesting that our sources take risks."
Then there's the reward Wikileaks is offering for info that nails Rich's killer. No reason to do that unless Rich was an informant.

We walks right up next to saying, "Seth Rich was our source and the DNC found him out and that's why he was murdered.", but then stops and doesn't actually say it.
"Let the discerning reader understand", and as you point out, it doesn't take a lot of discernment to understand really what he means. If I can do it anyone can, I suppose.

Incredible! And is this headline news? Of course not. Can you IMAGINE if the roles were reversed and Rich was a RNC staffer ? We’d have a special prosecutor investigating Trump, it would be headline news everyday for the next 100 years, “Trump had Rich killed” dirtbags like McCain and Schumer would be demanding impeachment.
