“I engaged in obscene communications with this teenager,” Mr. Weiner said, his voice high and shaky, and his body trembling. Those communications “included sharing explicit images and encouraging her to engage in sexually explicit conduct,” just as he had done with adult women, he said.

Mr. Weiner, 52, will have to register as a sex offender where he works and lives,

Federal prosecutors said in the plea agreement that a sentence in the range of 21 to 27 months would be “fair and appropriate.” The decision ultimately lies with Judge Loretta A. Preska of Federal District Court in Manhattan; sentencing is set for Sept. 8.

But Mr. Weiner quickly dissolved into tears as he read from a written statement when the judge asked that he describe what he had do.

A secret service agent in the Obama White House just got 20 years for doing the exact same thing.

My question is this. Did Anthony Weiner get to light a sentence or did the secret service agent get to long a sentence?

They are both perverts and this can not be cured except with an orchiectomy. I do not wish to pay for the incarceration of these two perverts that will come out of prison as perverts least we cut their balls off. I think both should have the luxury of choice, lose your balls or prison and if you take testosterone shots after they cut your balls off, you go back to prison for a long time with a cell mate that is 250 pounds, six foot six and name Bubba Bad Butt.

"I wonder if they are rushing to wrap up the Weiner trial, to try to get the laptop in evidence destroyed before the new Special Counsel gets around to subpoenaing it for Hillary’s emails."

Wouldn't want folks to know where he ordered his pizza from...

IDK about the Federal obscenity charges but I do know that the Federal crimes of Clinton files should put all of them away. I won’t hold my breath.

Seems a bit odd to me, that he’s facing some serious prison time, but sentencing isn’t until September. Is he free till then? And then, will he go to a minimum security prison?

Again notice that the feds are more inclined to enforce unconstitutional acts like federal obscenity laws, than acts based on valid, constitutional law like mishandling of federal classified information.

Then, we know that the definition of obscenity has changed over the years. If I recall correctly, Hugh Hefner and Playboy were involved in some early court cases on obscenity, as Playboy showing nudity offended the sensibilities of many back in the ‘50s and early ‘60s.

As I recall, originally Playboy didn’t show full frontal nudity, but carefully concealed certain parts of the body. Nowadays it’s no holds barred, but the original complaints about Playboy would be a non-issue today, with the type of nudity shown back then.

Now nobody blinks an eye about Playboy, as it has been bypassed by raunchier men’s magazines and internet pornography.

There are many ways that people get drunk.

I’ve used adult beverages and inhalants for sure.

But there are dimensions like food, money, and sex-lust angles.

If Weiner can admit he’s a drunk and give it up to the Higher Power, put the pride, vanity and ego of politics on the shelf, he can have a better future.

“Multi-state crimes may trigger federal adjudication, but that adjudication would be subject to state law(s).”

Wiener was in NY. The girl was in NC. That makes it a Federal case and it’s clearly within their purview. How exactly would you like it to be “subject to state laws”? These actions are criminal in both states, btw.

Cases tried in federal court are often subject to state law with the Erie Doctrine as the framework.

http://vanderbiltlawreview.org/articles/2010/10/Logan-Erie-and-Federal-Criminal-Courts-63-Vand.-L.-Rev.-1243-2010.pdf

Again, there is no constitutional justification that I know of for federal obscenity laws.
