Trump: It Is ‘Possible’ FBI Director Position Will Be Filled by Friday

President Trump hinted that it is “possible” that the FBI’s top post will be filled by Friday, according to a White House press pool report released Saturday. Trump mentioned that he might even make the final decision on who gets the top FBI post before he leaves for Saudi Arabia Friday, saying “even that is possible.”

“We can make a fast decision,” Trump said, explaining the FBI’s vetting process.

Trump spoke highly of the candidates for the position, describing them as “very well-known” and “highly-respected” people with a lot of talent, according to the pool report. The president did not say whether these candidates are being vetted for the interim director or permanent director position.

“Almost all of them are very well known,” he said. “They’ve been vetted over their lifetime, essentially. But very well known, highly respected, really talented people. And that’s what we want for the FBI.”

Four candidates for the permanent position to replace former FBI director James Comey are being interviewed Saturday by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Fox News reported.

The four candidates include Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), and New York Court of Appeals Judge Michael J. Garcia.

Not only that, people blab their secrets to beautiful people. And even in this age, some people still vote based on looks.

I’d be OK with Gowdy, hoping that he’d be more successful with results than he has with investigations in the past.

I’ve heard some say an attorney would be best. Others say someone in law enforcement would be best. Sheriff Clarke’s name has been pitched at times. I like that idea, assuming that he’s ready for prime time. He’s got the right attitude.

My husband read somewhere today that he was asked if he was interested and he said yes.

Well, your husband would be better than McCabe.

Luttig, former Fourth Circuit judge, would be outstanding- what a mind! A Richard Feynman class genius.
Shoulda been on the Supreme Court.

Would love to see him in any legal position in the administration.

It is 97% certain McCaul would replace Cornyn on the 1% chance DJT chose him.

I gotta believe McCabe is as dirty as Comey. Why is he in the mix?

Appearances and continuity. McCabe will be acting until the new FBI head is confirmed. You either remove McCabe immediately and appoint an interim head or you leave McCabe in place until the new permanent FBI director is in place and he/she can appoint their own deputy.

It looks like the latter is the choice. If McCabe is allowed to continue as the acting director, you must pro forma consider him as a choice. He won't be chosen.

“It is 97% certain McCaul would replace Cornyn on the 1% chance DJT chose him.”

Considering that Cornyn’s the only acceptable candidate of the four, I hope his odds are better than that.

I would LOVE to see Trey Gowdy as head of the FBI! I have watched numerous congressional hearings he has been on and he is a LION.

No we can’t afford to lose a Republican senator but at least we can count on our Governor to appoint another Republican in the interim. Would suspect that electing two Republicans as Senators in Texas is going to be a dog fight because of so many illegals in the state and lots of voter fraud. Believe Cruz is also up for reelection in 2018. Would love to see Cornyn long gone and replaced with a true Conservative but he has really deep financial pockets.
