A buddy of mine had a black 61 Galaxie Sunliner with the sleek roof and bubble back windshield. Beautiful car, Daytona model, hi-po 390, factory headers and dual exhaust, and 3 on the tree with O/D.
Raced him on the freeway one night. I was topped out, speedo was bouncing around between 135-140. He was right beside me, and he’d drop back suddenly and then catch up again but couldn’t get past me. I was in a 59 Vette with a mild build.
Later I asked him what he was doing and he said he was trying to get into O/D so he could leave me behind. Motor was too wrapped up and it wouldn’t shift.
