The Internal Revenue Service, which is responsible for collecting federal taxes and enforcing federal tax law, was unable to accurately deal with its own complex rules governing the payment of its own employees and ended up overpaying more than 600 IRS workers about $4,200,000, according to an audit report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

The IRS also underpaid more than 900 employees about $2,700,000, according to TIGTA’s estimate.

This is exactly what happened in the military when I was active/reserve. As a disbursing officer the unofficial motto was: “When in doubt, screw the member!” It was much easier to tell someone later on that you owed him additional $$ than it was to advise him that he would be getting less $$ for the next several pay periods.

“Errors in setting pay, especially those discovered years after they were made, can have a significant impact on employees because employees are required to reimburse the IRS for the amount of the overpayment,” said the IG.

As a result of the IG’s audit, the IRS is now reviewing the compensation of nearly 1,000 present IRS employees who might have been overpaid. Is this action of "reviewing" similar to The Government's "monitoring" of suspected Terrorists?

It's like a survival guide for chickens being written by Col. Sanders.

It’s a question I have asked again and again: Where have the IG, GAO, and other oversight people been lo these many years and what have they been doing?

Government “oversight” people are a case of “who watches the watchers”. Eric Holder did not invent “investigate yourself”.

Average Joe American makes a mistake on his tax return, the IRS hammer comes down with stiff penalties.

IRS accountant paymasters make multi-million dollar accounting "mistake" and it's written off as a rounding error.

ABOLISH THE IRS!

There is NEVER any "oversight" in government.......only hindsight.

Well, I take it you knew what I meant by the scare quotes around the word “oversight”.

And if the government truly had hindsight, it’d be going further back past the Communist Manifesto (ignoring it altogether) to the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
